degree of steadiness, helped somewhat by
reports of good export engagements at the
seaboard. Trading throughout the session
was almost entirely of u local nature, ott
slde orders being few and far between.
September closed at "IMl'fit". Northwest

the moro elTeetlvo In Its Intluence nnd the
market closed weak at about tho low level
of th day, after having shown considera

A number of statements of railroad net

1IOHS Receipts todav were llcht for 11
Tuesday, but the duality was better as 11
general thing than yestcrdny, though the
proportion or nair-rat stun; was r.uner
large. The opening sales today were a
little stronger than yesterday's general
market, but It soon eased off so that the
bulk of the earlv sales were only about
steady. The long string went at $5.o7',i,
wiin tne netter grades selling at ..iu or
higher, anil the light or trashy stuff sold
from $5.05 down. The market was not
particularly active, as sellers were looking
for 11 little better prices nnd buyers did not
want to pay more than they did yesterday.
The market closed without material
change, the long string going at lo.Oi'i,
with a few more In proportion ut $5.10 than
yesterday and also a better top. so that
the average cost todav Is Just 11 trlllo
