FALL BUSINESS FLOURISHING IN ALL LINES Sharp AdtmiT in Mianr anil Coflec JlnLe Mnrkrt Active Few Price Chance of liuorlnncr In Other Line. The veflume of tilne ts keeping tip re markably well and I even ryhhing abeati of last jetr't figures, which U rather sur I rtrtBR. It was xixtcj that the report for June would buw a decreae over the same month lust year on account of the, connl Uon cf the market. At prent the tendency 1. , . i H.ikk .h..... f , . . lunh r and merchants a a riuU arc not buying for future wants In June, 1H, hiwerer. prices on nrly all lines were advancing anfl the tendency was to anticipate order several months in advance. The fact thin that trade this year compare favorably with litt Is considered eneauraglnc. Most of the traveling men for local Job berg have bean In the city fr July 4 and pracU-ally all of them speak well of the trade they have ben having Retail mer chants are doing a big business and were it not for the fact that they all bought un usually heavy on the Mart there would be a big re-order business at present. An it is. however, there is hardly a much dolnc in tVikt tin in Mmc seasons MH. very few complaints though, are heard on any ( score ana mercnuiir n iir .,, pleased with prevailing conditions The markets as a rule tire in much the tome petition they were In a week ago Outride of groceries there art very few changes of enough important e to mention. CcBce nnd SuKr Advance. The sensation of the week in grocery circled the sharp advance in coffee. For a short time the market has been rathtr weak, bt it ha starved on another upward movement and still hicher prices are being prod.i ted than those now in force Oteen coffee Is 2 cents per pound hicher than It was a week ago. roasted coffee it up H f" nt and the market is arm at the ad vance The sugar market is also moving upward Plnce last report the prices have been ad vanced on refined grade 16 cents per lo1 pounds and the market on raws both at home and abroad Is als much hicher He flnerle still claim that they are well, over sold and in view of the fact that the de mand is rtlll enormous Jobbers are antici pating higher prices. Ths salmon marhet is attracting consider able attention and prices on all trades are belnp held very hrmly. Indications are thought to be favorable for higher Quota tions in the near future. There is little chance to report In dried fruits, with the exception of the large bized prunes, which, owing to light stocks, are heinc held at very- firm figures. New Cali fornia evaporatod apricots are new offered on this market. The quality of the Mock, however, is Inferior to old goods, both In color and tire. ... . In sympathy with the break in wheat flour ir being quoted a trifle lower than it was a week ago Sisal rope It also off , cent as a result of the decline In raw fiber Other lines remain about where they were a week ago. Uardnare Market Unchanged. There It nothing new to be said about the hardware market, at practically all lines are in JuFt about the same position as lat week. The market is not very firm, but still there hnve not been any quotable changes during the Ian week A few lines are sag ging, but, on the other hand, other lines are firming up. so it is simply a case of where prices are being readjusted. Trade with local Jobbers continues tin usually heavy for this season of the year and is running ahead of last year's record The gain Is not very great, but a loss was generally anticipated for June, so Jobbers feel that they are doing remarkably wfcll. Dry Good Trade Quiet. Dry goods Jobbers found trade a trifle quiet lart week, owing to the fact that their traveling men were not on the road. Sort ing up orders have not been coming In very heavy of late and Jobbers do not look for much in that line this season. Fall orders are being received in pood numbers and that part of the trade is all that could be desired. Just at present Jobbers are busy getting in their fail lines and are preparing to begin shipping them out Into the countr;, They intend to start advance orders this week, though they may be detained longer than that. There it nothing new to be said regarding the market, a practically all lines are about where they have been for the last tew weeks Eastern markets are still reported dull and but little doing in any line. Hoots and Shorn Quiet. The trade tn boots and shoes Is moving along at about the same rate it has been for some time past Jobbers are getting a few slilng up orders, but there Is nothing rushing in that line and probably will not be In the near future Fall business, how evf r, is in a very satisfactory condition and more has been clone In that line so far than up to this time last seaon. In a few weeks Jobbers will have in their spring samples It is not anticipated that there will be any material change from jirosent prices Rubber poods are selling ar wall as could be expected for this time of year. Little or nothing, of course, is doing in immediate business, but for fall quite a few orders are being landed. Lumlifr Mnrtrl Inactive. Local Jobbers are experiencing rather a quiet time Just at present, as regards local trade.. The most of the building that was commenced early In the spring Is now com pleted and the fall building has not opened up, so that this is Just Ik t ween seasons A big fall trade, however, it being anticipated at much that would have been done In the spring was postponed on aooount of lub r troubler Now that there Is but little d'tt culty in that line it it thought that bulldin; operations will take on more life The country trade is In more satisfactory condition, though this is alo the quiet t.m'e for that branch of the trade Farmer are too busy to use the lumber now and conse quently retailers are not buying more stock Propocts, though, are most favorable for a big demand from the country a little later In the season Fruit nnd 1' roil 11 it. There was no special feature to the trade In fruit and produce last wtek. The demand for all fresh truck was good and prices on several lines are a trifle lower than the were a week ago. owing to a more libera' supply. California paachex are down to ! cents and 11 per box and apricots are 11 S!. California lemons have been advanced, owing to the increase in sales caused I y th -hot weattier The prices ai which the various kinds of berries are selling will be found In the table of prices givun in an other column About the only thing new In the vegetable line is green oorn. which In aMltnc at loft K cents per dozen Watermelons are held at Si40 cents, depending upon the sslze The egg market, owing to light receipts and good demand. t;rmod up a trifle last week. I'fHiltn Is in liberal eupflv. ail ex cept hens ,wh!h are ruiher source, and prices hrm Rutter Is also a trifle hie tier than It was a h-k ago There U nothing i.ew to lie said regarding the flsh raurket, as prices remain about the tame MSW YORK C.KMUtAL MAItKKT. The cattle market during the past week has been in a very satisfactory condition The demand on the tiart of local packers was good all the week and tach day's offering were picked up at from steady to strong prices On Friday, owing to rather liberal receipts lor the end of the week, the market eased off a tnfie. values ranging from nearly steady on the most desirable grades to I0c lower on the common stuff The week, however, closes with prices about where they were a week ago, as about as much was added on Tuesday and Thursday as was taken off on Friday. The quality of the cattle received during the week was better than It has been fur a long time, and the prices paid were very satis factory to the selling interests. The supply of cow stuff has been light all the week, not more than five or nix cars a day being received Strictly choice cows were in pood demand and sMd at about steady prices, the wek closing without much change Common cows and thin grasy stuff, however, are slow sale and prires lower than they were u week Ego by lofilic. Commission men are advising their customers not to ship in cattle that are good only for canners, as there are not enough coming to make it pay for packers to l:ep a canning gang at work A little later, when mere of that kind of stuff Is being marketed, it Is thought the demand Will be better. Bulls, calve? and stags have not shown much change for the week, though common and stock bulls are slow sale and wtak There hut e hardly been enough stock cat tle on sale this week to make a market. The tendency of prices, however, has been lower Good cattle would probably find buyers, but very little of that kind of stuff is b!ng received About all that has come In during the last week has been on the common order and the demand was Hcht. Prices on the common stuff may be safely quoted anywhere from 7frc to il.OD lower than they were a month ago. and ood rattle are from 60c to ?&c lower. Rep retentatlve sales: BEEF STEERS. No. Av. Tr.
