FrclliiK.
PARIS, Juno 19. Tlio national commis
sioners today concluded tholr Inspection of
tho American exhibits at the exposition pre
paratory to making their report. They vis
ited tho sections of machinery nnd elec
tricity und agriculture and tho agricultural
annox, where tho corn kitchen Is located
nnd whero ngrlculturul Implements aro
shown. They ulso viewed the display of ma
chinery for licntlng, ventilating nnd snnl
tntlon, tho publishers' building nnd diversi
fied Industries.
Tho Jury on wines has decided not to
Judge nny foreign wlno which bears tho
nnmo of any French wlno. Most. American
wines hnvo tho general names of French
wines, nfter which they nro flavored, such
as Sauterne, Chnblls, Bordeaux, Chateau
Yqucni, etc. These will bo excluded under
tho notion of tho Jury, hnlf of tho entlro
membership of which nro Frenchmen.
Tho California commissioners, who hoped to
Eccuru recognition for their wines, are In
censed and threaten to withdraw alt their
exhibits. It, Is felt, hero that Jealousy of
tho American wlno'industry is at tho bono in
of thn trouble, as the wines now excluded
were Judged nt tho exposition of 1S89 under
tho names they now boar. Besides, tho
Ainerlcnn wines wero catalogued under their
present names nnd there hna been no protest
until now. Lato this afternoon the ques
tion was brought to tho attention of tho
Ainerlcnn commission by Dr. Wiley, tho
American representative on tho wlno Jury,
nnd pressuro will bo brought to lar with
the object of annulling tho decision, which
Is considered most unjust to tho American
exhibitors.
It is believed tho wlno Jury, which 1b a
class Jury, acted without authority and that
It will bo overriden by tho group Jury,
whoso duty it Is (o decide such matters.
