desirable for ward buildings stating as a
reason that the school district needs a site
for a building for grade purposes. And that
It will also soon need a site for a High
school building. The recommendation was.
therefore, that the O'Nell site for $2.HJ
ould give temporary relief to a much
crowdel district and that it would be pru
dent to purchase It. The objection as
raised, however, that it is too small. In re
porting further the committee recommended
that a good plan would be to purchase a big
site with a view of erecting a building for
temporary relief and later connecting It with
a main building which could be used for a
High school. As a location for such buildings
the committee recommended the Hoctor
site. In a word, the report means that the
O'Neil site is preferable for a ward building
for temporary relief, but In the event that
one or more such buildings ecu Id be later
attached to a High school building the
Hoctor 9lte Is favored. It was aeserted by
members of the board that the Hoctor site
at W.J00 is favorably considered for a High
school and ward school site. The report of
the committee was plared on ale.

There Is considerable speculation as to
who will land the councllmanlc plum, as
the vacancy still exists. Clifton tried hard
. mayor nominated Clifton, but he was re
I but he failed to secure enough promises to
make his election a sure thing. Two or
' three other candidates were alto In the field
and It is presumed that the unsettled condi
tion of affairs induced a division of the
1 council at quorum -lme last night. Ever
' since Mayor Kelly was Inducted Into office
the council has had to worry along with
only seven members instead of the cus
tomary eight. At the first meeting the
mayor nominated Clifton, but he was re
jected and his honor has so far refrained
from making any further nominations, al
though he js importuned every day or so.
' The people want to eee the matter settled,
at least that appears to be the talk on the
streets. It is asened that when the coun
