Tho council announces Informally throush
overul of Uh mcmbem th.it It Is ready and
willing to listen to any complaint which the
chiol board may drolrc to prujent regarding
l'ollco Judgo Gordon. In case the proper
knowing In mado charge will bo filed by tho
council In tho dlntrlct court as provided by
tho charter. Chairman Ilascall of the ju
diciary committer nays It has been Intimated
to him that tho chool board would muke u
presentment of tho facts In Us powjsslon.
IIo Is In favor of tin council taking the ac
tion Hiiggested In Tho Heo of applying for
tho proper writ beforo tho district court,
llo jioUitfi out that the charter gives the
mayor and three councllmen power to file
charges against any city olllclal.
"It is certainly extraordinary," said Mr.
Hascall, "that tho police court fines should
dwlndlo from 2!),O0O to virtually nothing In
uovon years, and under present condltloni.
wo mlKht Just as well abolish tho police
court altogether, Inimmui'li os It Is simply
iurnlshLng support for a few lawyers and4
Jiangen-on. There Is certainly no Incentive
for polluemon to muke nrroats when there Is
M llttln hope of conviction. If the pollco
Judgo worn Misoomlol tho huslnees of tho
ofllco could an oislly be attended to by a
Justice of tho peace, and It Is a question In
my mind whclher thu ofllco Ih not already
ubollehcd. Tho supremo court declared that
part of the new charter void which related
to pollco Judge, so that at best he hus only
tho inrt slender right to exist.
"I have no clwlro to sit In Judgment on
the question In advance, but If tho school
loanl can present tho ovldctico supposed to
Hio on hand tho duty of tho council will bo
clear. Ah pointed out In Tho Ilco tho
charter specllles that whenever tho required
persons lllo their chargen In district court
tho Judgo shall issue tho proper writ re
quiring tho official Indicated to appear and
show cause why ho should not bo removed.
Tho complaint must bo given tho right-of-way
and tho accused official must make his
ehowlng within ten days. Tho court may
oven suspend tho defendant during the In
terval." flty Hull llrl.f.
The city troumiror has called In warrants
ntnoutiting to $29,450. The amount Is di
vided utnoiiK cloven funds, principally the
lire, police, water nnd general funds.
Forty-two peddlers with wngons have so
far paid their annual fee of $25 to License
Inspector tteott. Tho Inspector expects to
collect tho fees still unpaid within a few
days.
With the corning of warm weather the
Health department Is deluged with com
plaints iigalnHt persons violating the sani

remonstrances have been Hied dally for the
last week. Tho health commissioner has
detailed four Inspectors to Investigate and

When tho contest was brought up In tho

The difficulty between Ilov. Charles V.
Savldgo of Omaha and Itcv. I), N. Mclnturff
of Spokane Is olrcd In full In (ho Chronicle
of the latter city and tho report given out
by tbo committee finds In favor of the
Washington dlvlno. In ovory particular. Dr.
Mclnturff says that tho annual meeting of
People's churches now being held will con
tlnuo In spite of the withdrawal of Itev.
Savldge.
Tho committee Which made Inquiry Into
the misunderstanding was mndo up of J. P.
Wllkcrson nnd B. K. Dcrlght, delegates
from Omaha; V. K, Piper, pastor of Nelson,
II. C; Mrs. Anna Cole, deacon of the Spo
kane church; Henry 8. Woods, treasurer; J.
S. Taylor, general missionary superintend
ent, and W. Hendricks. Tho committee de
cided that Mr. Savldgo's complaints were
ontlrely groundless and that In nil his deal
ings Dr. Mclnturff has acted the part of a
gentleman nnd a Christian.
Mr. Savldgo's first allegation was that Dr.
Mclnturff desired to borrow money from
the Omaha congregation to meet his April
payment nt Spokane. The committee found
that he was Justified In this expectation In
view of an Implied promise made by Rev.
Savldgo. The second complaint was based
on a successful effort of Dr. Mclnturff to
borrow 1700 from a Mrs. Mlchlc of this city.
Tho committee found that the security of
fered was ample and that no Improper Influ
ence hail been hrought to bear.
In view of the report tho deacons of tho
Omaha church have decided that Mr. Sav
ldge whs not Jiiftlfled in his complaint and
tho congregation will probably concur In
this view.
