At 0 o'clock Friday night Hcnjamln Gal lagher, Junior member of the Paxton-Oalla-Bher firm, passed away at tho family rent donee, 208 South Twenty-sixth tivenuc. Ho was surrounded by members of hie family, W. A. Paxton, his life-long friend nnd busi ness partner, and C. H. 1'lckcns, general manager of the firm. Death resulted from a series of paralytic HtroktH. 'Air. Gallagher stood out prominently as ono of tho pioneer commercial men of Omaha. Ho had not, however, been actlvo in hUfllnrMi affairs since his first stroke of paralysis five years ago. Since then he has traveled In ticarch of health and has had the foost of medical attention, but nil to no nvall. Ho bod not been to his placo of busi ness for mort) than a year. Thrco years ago Mr. Gallagher suffered a socond stroko of paralysis, which left him In much wo rue condition than be was after tho first. JIo gradually grow to bo an In valid and his death was not unexpected. Hlu friends say only his superb vitality has kept him nllvo for tho last year. Hcnjamln Gallagher located In Omaha In 3SG8 and resided hero continuously until death. Ho was born near Ottumwa, la., on a farm, and his first huslnuie experience was In tho city of Ottumwa, Leaving there In 1863 he engaged In merchandising at Fort Mcl'hcrson nnd Cheyenne. Ho mado monoy, although he started with compara tively urn u II capital, and when, In 1S68, ho came to Omaha bo entered the grocery business with V. C. Morgan under the firm tiamo of Morgan & Gallagher. They con ducted a Jobbing trndo nnd prospered. In 1879 lMesain. Gallagher nnd I'axton becamo bunlnosn partners. They had been cloje frlcndu since 1862. It Is said of them that n mora nralcablo partnership nover existed, Mr. I'axton Is greatly grieved at tho death of his old friend nnd was not nt his olllce yesterday. Tho linn of I'axton & Gallagher began ImslncfH at Fifteenth nnd Farnam strcoto, whero tho Waro block now stands, Tho business grow rapidly and n few years Jator tho firm Incorporated. Twenty years ago Mr. Gallagher married Mlsn Wlnnlfrod Keogh of this city. Two tons nnd tho wife nlirvlve. Mr. Gallagher was C9 years old, llo never took any actlvo Interest In politics nor socloty, but was an enterprising member of tho Commercial club nnd othor development organizations. It Is said that ho was big-hearted and liberal to a fault, making good uso of tho money that camo to him ns the fruits of his Industry nnd ISuslneos sagacity.
