county. 111., I wus very much Interested in
the change of tho last twenty-olght years In
the nr.itards, groves, methods of fanning
and in our old homo place. One thing that
was linjiressed upon tno wus Iho hIzo to
which trees have grown In twenty-eight
years' time nvenues of street trees, shade
trees about tho dwellings und the changes
that have taken place In the orchards.
We find people muting down cottonwoods
that have grown to n diameter of threo feet
and snnio of them even larger. Timber lands
have been cleared up and aro now growing
line crops of corn.
The school yard of the district where I
taught sfhool some thirty years ago Is now
tilled with line, lnrge trees, which were only
saplings nt that time. These, with their
bioad, hpundlng snaae, glvo the school yard
a very pleasant nppearnnce different from
Its condition thirty years ago.
Most of tho farm houses aro well painted,
nearly nil of the fanners hnvo largo barns.
The orchards, however, havo gono to wreck
and the orchard, which was so productive for
us thirty years ago, now htm but few trees
remaining. There seema less disposition lo

four good horses, cutting eight feet In width.

After planting, which tn this neighborhood,

and then cultivated three times. This us
sutnes that tho ground will bo kept clean and
seasoned throughout. Nothing Is lost in
weeds.

learned that those who rent for share rent
simply furnish tho land ami receive) half ot
tho entlro crop. Oftentimes this crop Is de
livered In town by tho renter. Thoso who
pay cash rent usually pay $5 per acre, In
somo cases $6 per acre. Asking tho price of
land these farms are held at $80, $90 and
$100 per nero. Occuslonnl sales of $100 per
tu rn are reported.

our better cllnnito nnd milder seasons fnr
