OIUCAGO , June II. Wheat today suf fered from lack of speculative. Interest nnd cloved at a decline of about tec. ' Corn nnd oats were dull , but closed about He higher each. Provisions declined about 2' , c all around. The main feature of wheat trading wai the general shifting of speculation to the September option. The opening was steady , September starling a shade lower at 77H1 } ) 77Uo and selling at once at % c. Cables wore firm and higher. Heavy rains were reported In the Hlnck sen country , but It wan also stated that the grain In that sec tion would not be worth cutting. On this statement there was moderate support at the opening , but soon after the market commenced to decline on selling by local longs. A decline to TC ic in September en sued , when a limited covering movement steadied the market for a time , September recovering to "nTfcc. Northwest receipts were rnthor small , owing to the storms In that section. Minneapolis and Duluth re ported 4.11 cars , ngnlnst 'M lust week nnd " 8 year ago. Chicago receipts were. 100 cnrs , live of contract quality. The weather was roiwrted much too wet In the wprlng wheat country nnd this helped to sustain prices for a tlmo. The seaboard reported 320 loads taken for export , but the cash demand hero was slow. Atlantic | > ort clearances were RM.OOO bushels. Hrndstroet's reported a visible Increase of fiSO.OOO bushels. The market became almost stagnant during the afternoon. Moderate quantities were offered and In the almost total absence of Mipport prices for September sigge < l to 76Vic. The close was weak at "Gc. Corn was rather slow but llrm. L/argo buying of July by a lending commission house wns the feature , causing covering by shorts and keeping prices slightly nbovo yesterday's during most of the session. Re ceipts wore 4li ) cars. Clearances weru lib eral nnd the weather In the corn belt wns favorable. There was a fair cash demand. The market weakened somewhat In the afternoon with wheat. September ranged from 3IUc to 3lc nnd closed a shade higher nt 34 nfiOme. Good caHh demand nnd the small country movement made a llrm market for oats , llecclpts wore 192 cars. Weekly crop bulle tins generally showed nnxloty on account of rust nnd nuiknesH. September ranged from 207V&Clc ! to 21'ie and closed % c higher at 21',4c. The .market for provisions was Irregular. Some strength was shown at tbo start on higher hogs and on covering by shorts ; later the market turned weak on selling by packers and all the early advance was lost , t'ash demand was fair. At the close Sep tember pork was 2',4c lower at $ S. 12A ! , September - tombor lard unchanged nt $3.15 and Septem ber ribs 2Hc lower nt JI.S2V4. MliXTS ( IF STOCKS AM > IIO.Ml.S , of Ypnterilny Itrvoriipil nnd Sprenlndon IM I'tincttlrd. ' NEW YORK , June ll.-The provlrtonal board room traders , whose effort It Is to keep In the current of events for a short turn In prices , were kept In a very unset tled frame of mind today by the frequent ebb and flow of prices nnd they were left In a state of confusion at the- close under the puzzling conflict of current in Ihe mar- kel. Some rather large Intoresls evidently took their protlls on Ihe recent rise yester day and having done so , were ready to uvow the fact this morning. This brought n considerable fol'.ow.ltiR . from outside sources nnd the commission houses were sellers of the general list. But the bears who sold stocks freely In the late flurry yeslerday wcro buyers on the decline for the purpose of covering their short con tracts , so that the belated liquidation was pretty well absorbed. In fact , the covering by the shorts and large buying of someof the high-priced specialties carried prices generally after the opening , above last night's level. But weak spots began to develop , notably In Sugar , Metropolitan and the smelting stocks , the lallcr on the prospect of labor troubles , and a general selling movement set In. Anaconda. Continental Tobarco , Plttsburg , Cincinnati. Chicago & St. Louis , Baltimore & Ohio , Colorado & Southern preferred , Intornallonal Paper nnd the steel stocks , which were advanced yesterday , were all special points of weakness nt different tlme during the day. On Iho other hand , the Flower ppeclrtltles , es pecially Brooklyn Transit and Federal Steel , were well sustained nnd showed a disposition to advance. Sugar , also , after dropping off nearly 3 points , developed an aggressive upward tendency nnd rose an extreme 6 points. Manhattan was another center of strength. Thin deterred the bears from making new ventures on the short Bide , although Ihe early advances were nol well malnlalncd. The market was. In fact , a waltlnc one , In the exact sense of the word , nnd fell Into cxlreme dullness lale In the day. The quick ralty of 4',4 points In Metro- polllan Street Railway , after dropping S i and 3Vi In Sugar , llflcd Ihe level of prices from Iho low plane lo which they had been dragged during Ihe aflernoon nnd made Ihe close comparatively firm. Only n few stocks showed net gains , fractional net losses being the. rule. The expected divi dend declaration on Norlhern Pacific com mon , which was announced shortly after 3 o'clock , gave thai Block some strength ; otherwise grain-carrying roads were in clined to heaviness on talk of harm done by the rains. Denver preferred nnd the Southwesterns generally were conspicu ously weak. The banks were rather more exacting In granting loans called during the day nnd this led to more attention be ing given to the outlook In the money mar ket. The conditions are much easier In London where the effect on the stock mar ket was beneficial , and this lessens the prospect of a further Immediate outflow of cold. There was a reactionary tendency man ifested at some points In Iho bond market and the business done was only moderate. Total sales , par value , J2li45,000. Govern ment bonds were unchanged. The Commercial Advertiser's London lln.-ujclal cablegram says : The markets here were very inactive today and the tone was Irregular , though the Transvaal blue liook was well received , Kalllrs closing strontr. Americans were Idle and had a drooping tendency ; Canadian Pacifies and Denver preferred dropped heavily on fears of stringency In money In Berlin nnd Den ver dividend rumors ; Spanish 4s were -IG'fe ; coppers were weak ; Anacondas , 105-16 ; tln- los , 45 4. Six Ihousand pounds sterling gold arrived from Egypt. The net Influx of the week was .C29S.OOO. Buyers n.s a rule starled oul bidding lower , and 11 was hue. 'before ' anything of consequence bad been done. As to values , cholco handy cattle for the most part sold about steady , nnd attractive cattle , even If a little on the heavy order , did not show so much change. Heavy cattle arid plain cattle of nil weights , as a rule , bad to sell n little lower. It took a long time to effect anything like a clearance , as sellers w re holding on for steady prices , while buyers were rather In different. Cows and heifers were In moderate supply In splto of the large receipts of cattle nnd the market on that kind was all right. De- slrablo lots sold at fully steady prices and the supply was soon exhausted. The mar ket on bulls and stags was not much changed , and the same was true of cnlv's , There were more stockurs and feeders In the yards than for some time past. As the supply for a number of days 'back ' has been very meager speculators were pretty fnlr buyers , and most of the offerings changed hands early nt good , firm prices.
