F < > b. 27. Enormous clearances nnd big exports today , In addition to the circulation of numerous crop damage re ports , strengthened wheat and May left oft at an advance ofV4e , Corn rose Uo nnd oats closed n Miado higher. Pork lost li'/iW SOc , lard and ribs V. < ttivc. Feezing temperatures today throughout the winter wheat belt where there was heavy rain yesterday and Saturday caused u Rood deal of anxiety regarding the winter plant and the mark t opened firm. May utartcd Vie higher at 73tf7 'ic ' , but met conslderablo sailing by ncalpers , brought about by Indifferent cables and the price ngged to 73c. The weakness did not last long , however , as Russian shipments last wetk were found to have been only 664,000 Ini. , nnd the receipts at domestic markutg indicated some reduction of farmers' deliv eries. Chicago received seventy-eight cars , of which only twelve were graded contract. IMIlineapollH nnd Duluth got 540 carloads , compared with CGO a week ago and 3lZ ! for the same day last year. World's shipments to Europe for the week aggregated 0,321,000 bu. , the greater portion coming from this country. The vlslbls supply showed 302,000 tin. Increauu , which about satisfied the ex pectations concerning It. Atlantic port clearances of wheat and flour for the day exceeded 1,000,000 bu. und New York re ported frssh export sales of forty-three boatloads. The downward tendency of for olgn markets , hownver , somewhat dam pened the spirits of the bull ? and prevented the full fruition that might otherwise have firlscn from those two announcements. Mny did not get above 73V4c and closed nt 73 0. A smaller Increase In the visible than expected , large clearances nnd moderate re ceipts strengthened corn. Commission } iouHc and elevator concerns bought freely , lint at the Improvement realizing st In nnd part of the unln was lost. Receipts wore 498 cars. May opened ftfiUo higher ut SBVsS'SOftc , rose to 3CT4c , sold off to 30Vic and closed nt 3Gc scllerv. There was a good demand for oats from concerns who wore taking oft hedges on cash lots for shipment nnd the market ruled firm throughout. Cash demand continued treed and 100,000 bu. were taken here for shipment. Receipts were large , amounting to 2.100 cars. May began V c up at 28KC , advanced to 2Sl4 j Sic. sold oft to 27Tifi2Sc nnd closed nt 2S2S' ( , < , c. The expectation of finding considerable addition to .stocks of cut mcits and lard when the result of stoek taking becomes known March 1 depressed provisions. This caused the liquidation of more long prop erty than could be absorbed without sub mitting to some reduction In price , and the latter altornatlvo was accepted. May pork opened a shade lower at $9.odO.G7Vi. , de clined steadily to $3.37'/i and closed at $9.37Vi : 09.40. Suoh cattle as just happened to please buyers sold at steady prices onrly , but the market was not very active nnd toward the last buyer * did not appear to want anything at steady prices , so that the late sales wern all a llttlo easier. The cause for the wenknei * Is to be found In the fact that the kind of oattlo arriving here are selling very close to Chicago prices nnd buyers feel that they are paying too much money for them. For that reason they were inclined to be Indif ferent this morning nnd they did not seem to want the cattle very badly at prevailing prices. Butchers' stock sold nt steady prices and as the demand was good the most of the of ferings changed hands early. There wore only a few bunches of cows and heifers all told , nnd not many of them that were very good. Veal calves wore good sell ers , good kinds bringing $6.50. Bulls and stags sold In the same notches as at the closeof last week. Only a few stockers and fccdars were on sale , nnd a buyers were expecting a good country demand this week , nnd did not have many on hand , they were nil in the mar ket nnd offerings met with rendy sale. Good kinds sold readily at strong prices and the supply was BOOH exhausted. The receipts today , as will be noted from the table above , were slightly smaller than on laflt Monday , but more than that. It was the smallest run for the first day of the Wfrek since January 16. Of the cattle here something like fifteen loads were cornfed steers nnd the balance was made up of cow stuff and stock cattle. Representative sales : BEEF STEERS. No. Av. Pr. No. Av. Pr. No. Av.
