j The coming contest between Woodmen of
| I the world degree teams of Alpha carap
No. 1 of this city nnd Council carap No. 14 ,
Council Bluffs , January 12 , promises to bo
an Intel eating event for the Woodmen of the
two cities. The degree teams of each camp
have been doing considerable drilling dur-
j Ing the last month. This will no doubt be
a lively contest. The editor of the Sov-
erclgn Visitor was over to Council Bluffs
camp last week and saw the work of No.
14 team , and Judging from the work of
both teams he thinks It will be nip and
tuck.
Camps throughout the United States are
j"making preparations for the Jurisdiction
convention which occurs In nine different
parta of the country , February 14. At these
conventions delegates are chosen for the
Sovereign Carap convention which takes
place at Memphis , Tenn. , In March ,
Mrs. Mary J. Huse , supreme guardian of
the Woodmen circle of this city , was In
Davenport , Iowa , last week on Important
business connected with the order. She
was the guest of Mrs. Ida Kelley of that
city , one of the supreme managers of the
order.
The order of the Woodmen of 'the' World
has had a wonderful growth during the year
189S , there being an Increase of over 35,000
accepted applicants , making the order In
the United States and Canada about 160,000.
In the rooms of the Woodman hall , the
members of Alpha camp No. i will have
a Christmas tree Thursday evening , Decera-
her 29. for the entertainment of their fam-
llles ana children. The doors will be open
all afternoon and at night refreshments will
be served. There will also be dancing for
the older people.
The members of Seymour camp and WIN
low camp arc planning to give balls during
th early part of January ,
The facilities of the home office for-hand-
ling business promptly are shown by the
dispatch with which death claims are paid.
In the case of T. W. White , who died De-
cember 8 , the claim was approved , the '
money remitted , and a monument to his
memory erected before December 22.

Omaha camp No. 120 will give a Christ
mas entertainment Wednesday evening ,

After the lodge meeting the executive com
mittee of the auditorium project will hold

Supreme Secretary Roger Dickens Is mak

The biscuit-colored cloth gown , Illustrated herewith , Is designed for the purposes of
calling. This Is made with a sham lower aklrt , the material extending only fifteen
Inches above the edge. The upper skirt U ft smooth circular mod I , closing at the
left side , wheie the placket Is concealed under the brown velvet edge , which , laid
under the square cloth tabs shown In the Illustration , forms th rich dworatlon of
the costume.
The bodice Is smooth-fitting In the back , but , while drawn so ai to follow tha
lines of the figure In the front , Is yet free from darts. The revere , which are cut
away , equarely from the front , are covered with a second set of revera of brown vel
vet. The turn-over collar expands to the proportions of a sailor-collar In the back ,
while the stock , chemisette , and cravatto are of palo malse-colorcd moumllne. Ths
close-nttlng alcoves are finished similarly to the front of aklrt and front of bodice. A
combination of brown shades Is used In the hat , which Is of sable-brown velvet and
eoft ehaded feathers.
To make this costume It will bo necessary to use Harper's Bazar cut paper pat
