NEW YORK , Aug. 9-Qulte a violent llqul- datlon sel In In ihe slock market In the last hour und a half of trading today nnd prices came tumbling from ihelr high places , the de clines from the high point being in many cases very wide. What the professional traders have been predicting for some lime came to pass , namely , n. sufllclenl decline in many slocks to uncover slap loss orders by weak holders of stocks , Th dealers have been aware of the "pyramiding" of orders on a luigc scale , that Is to say. the reinvestment of earnings as fust OH made by weak holders , which llireatened what occurred today. The supply of beef steers was very mea ger , nnd consisted of only a few loads ot coarslsh westerns nnd pome fairish corn- fed cattle , such as are selling right around $4.20. The buyers claimed that there was n gooj demand for deslrab'.e beeves nnd that a string of good westerns would have sold well. As It was the cattle were neither numerous enough nor good enough to create much Interest among buyers- , but they were all sold In the end ut about steady priced The supply of COWB and heifers was larger than that of steers , but the most of the offerings consisted of grass s tuff. Anything desirable or on the helferlsh order sold readily at fully steady prices' . Common grnsf' cows were. Inclined to be a little slow. There were a goad many stockers and feeders on sale , considering that there \\erc only eighty-eight loads of cattle of all kinds here. The market. In the language of the yards , was higher than a cat's back. Every one wanted feeders and the buyers were out eurly , and cattle were moving toward the scales before 8 o'clock In the morning. The buyers were not long in clearing the pens of the fresh receipts at prices that were even stronger than Chose paid on Saturday. Representative sales : . NATIVES. BRBF STEERS. No. Av. Pp. No. Av.
