There were n good many de- ulruble corn fed beeves In the yards , but the propoi lion of feeder * was considerably larger than It has been on moat days. As regards values on beef cattle , the lend ing features of Ihe situation were dccldedlj on the bear r.kle and against the Belling IntcrestK. Tim most Influential bear feature Was thu reported decline at Chicago and Kansas City and that wn i suppl'-mcuU-d by the fnct that the week , starting out wltli mich liberal receipts , cave promise of larger receipts to come , under such conditions the buyers seemed prepared to pound prjces when the market opened , but the demand wan too good , both local and shipping , and the cattle not only sold nt steady prices" , but tliey sold freely. The movement was sulll- cletilly active lo effect nn early clearance , practically everything being sold ly K o'clock In the morning or soon iiflnr. June r.-The strong upward inoveiiient of the grangers , whlcli was the fea ture of the market duiine all of last week , re ceived some c.ieck today on account of ruinora of damage to the corn and oilier eros ] In the northwest by the bail weather. Uurllngton ana St. I'aul. the leaders of tiie group , receded soint- iv hat in value In eoiibeiiience | and the whole imrkct was more or less adversely ufTecteil , .Vnrtlnvestern also lst a fraction. The deullnin. In the two leadeis. especially Uurllngton , wuru iiulte heavy , but SIIOIIK support was forth coming for them at the lower level. Indeed , hi. 1'nul lotu at ona time a fraction above Sat urday's close. The reaction In HurlliigtV.n. and ut times In other peclul stocks due to Inllu- ences opcratlnn Individually uion | them did not affect the strong undertone of the market. There was nothing like u general reaction , nor i\ gen eral swing toward u lower range of values sueh as the room trailers have been keenly watchful lor during tlic last two weeks. Confidence In the general outlook for the Improvement t-cemed to be unimpaired among security holders and llio offers to take profiti-i were steadily absorbed without effecting any marked lowering of prices. HOCK Island wns the strong element In the granger group and was nn exception In showing- - . net train. The market lost nothing of thr broadening tendency which Increasingly char acterized It last week nnd the dealings weie well distributed and the buying good all through the cenernl list. The heaviness In Individual ttucks was due to tpeclal causes nnd tills worked a dccllno In the market from time to time. Itut the decline was In almost all cases fully re covered. Commission houses were again buyers for outside customers and the arbitrage brokers were alee In the market , although the London exchange was closed In observance of the Whit suntide holidays. These brokers bought the In. temationnl stocks , apparently In the confidence tnat they will be able tu dlt-pine of them In linden when trading Is resumed there to morrow. This buying wns Indicated by the strength In Louisville .V : Nurlivllle , the Northern I'uclllc stocks and Atchlson preferred. The faci that there was no announcement of shipments of gold by tomorrow's steamer helped to sus tain confidence In Ihe maikel. The bears suf fered u decline In Bouthem preferred of IIA per cent on the report that proceedings wouli ] be had to annul t.ic consolidation under n. state law forbidding tlic acquisition of a com peting line by a railroad company. The stock recoveied almost all the loss. Western Union ulso was sold down on revived rumors of a divi dend reduction by the executive committee , which Is to meet tomorrow. Hut the loss wa more than recovered , the stock gaining a iie fraction. The strength of the Gould group was no small factor In rallying Ihe market from the earlier" decline , to that small net gains were the rule nt the close. Manhattan was notably strong , rising 2 ? per cent after a decline of 9 , per rent. Missouri 1'aclflc alto gained a net fraction. Cleveland , Cincinnati , Chicago & St. Ixiuls was depressed per cent without recov ery. Tobacco nnd General iicclrlc gained a point , but lost It. Chicago Gas , and New Jersey Central wore erratic and closed sllirlitly lower. Hugnr wns strong nnd active , rising VA per cent from the low point , but showed some reaction. Hub her preferred rose 214 per cent. Other not able gains were ; New Haven , 4 per cent , Oregon Navigation preferred. 314 per cent ; Den MolneH & Fort Dodge , 2 per vent each , and North ern I'uclflo common and preferred , Ix > ad. Cotton OH , Hay State Das , Ione Inland and 1'ullman u point or more. Third Avenue Street railway jumped to 1 0 , against 148 at the last preceding sale. sale. The The lendency of prices In the bond market continued generally upward , but some of the speculative Issues lagged under the Influence or realizing orders. CoiiEldurable animation was displayed * and round amounts of the prompt mortgages changed hands at Improved values. The purchase * * for continental account were ver heavy and embraced mo t of the principal se curities having nn International market , Im provements of from 1 to 2 per cent were regis tered In a number of lines , with the middle- grade bonds recording the extreme gain * . The Bairn were J2.C7G,000. Governments were quiet , hut generally firm. The transactions were JlG.txw.
