That would have 'been ' enough In Itself 10 Him.i , ' * market weak , but with the almost perfect ivrnlhcr nnd U L' carluads ot wm.u iu- celvcd nl Mlnncnpolls nnd DuliUli , in t'd- tllllon there was upparently no hope for the market. The llrst trades In .Hily Hindu HlmitUanoously In the pit worn over n muse of from 71c to 70jc ! , principally nt 70'jc. Vestl-rday's closing pilce was Tl'Iic. ' Some Jierivy tradi-i'H were twitl.slled with suph u nice rlean profit overnight on large lines and were about the only class of buyers to bo found. This was snlllclcnt to steady the market , however , and trading for the next hour was donu at from Ho to ViO hlKhor than the bulk of the opening iraiisactlonH. ] 4tiyhitf later became \fioro \ prominent , the fact of the marl ; t rcuolvlng siu-h support In the filce of the dl.scouraKlni ; news un- KcttlltiK the conlldt.iice uf the smaller HlmrtH nnd cnushiK them , too , to ln-i-omu buyers. The result was an ndvanco to il'.fcc. Now York reported clearances of whunl and Hour nt more than 400,000 hit. for the day nnd lute cables brought bnyliiK orders. The markft held comparatlvtly llrm until the iwlpt of Ilrndstreet's report of the world's vUlble , showing n di-crtase of 1'J33IVO ( bu. , whereas S.WO.OW bu. ur more dccretise hail been looked for. The decirnse In the world's Blocks the week before was about o.OW.lOU ' bu' . The making public of these llsurcs caused a decline to iO'.c. Humors of heavy export bllHlness nt the seaboard caused a MlKlU stlffenliiiv of prices Just hcforo the b'ose , the llnal ( iiiotatlon for July being .70vic , Corn was easier , but showed more BtreiiKth , either In view of the line weather or the actloiiM of wheat. Shorls were lib- era I buyers on the opening break. This was the sustaining feature of the market. Klevator people were sellers. Exports were MH.OOO bu. July opened Uc lower nt 2 ; o. sold between 24TV : nnd 2IHc , closing nt 21 % 024ic. . The market for oats was uninteresting nnd a small business was transacted. Prices were almost at 11 standstill for some time nfter the openlnif , but when wheat com menced to KU down oats did likewise. There was a. peed cash business at lower prices. July opened about He lower at 171ic. H advanced to 17n on some covering by shorts , then declined to 17-Kc , where it closed. Provisions were rnther puzzling , some draurs buying the market up and then wiling It off with apparently no other ob- J ; t than to keep the market moving. Open ing prices were weals nnd lower on the .heavy hog receipts west. Packers gave the market good hupport. At the close July pork was unchanged at $ S.22ii. A considerable proportion of the cattle consisted of corn feu beeves of very fair average quality. The market on anything that could be classed as desirable 'beef steers eould be summed up In a very few words , "steady nnd active.Vhllo there were a good many cattle on sale there were also ciulte u peed many buyers , both pack ers and shippers , and all npiwuruii to have liberal orders. The great " > ulk of all the cattle were sold and weighed up In good season. The market on the betwixt nnd between cattle was not BO good. No one appeared to want the half-fat cattle which were shipped lifer beef , but which were In reality neither suitable for beef nor feeders. As a result the market on that kind of cattle was slow and weak. The market on cows nnd heifers was just about steady , nnd the movement was active. The offerings were all taken early and the pens cleared In good season. A'oril calves , bulls , etc. , sold at dim prices. Stockers and feeders were In vciy fall- supply and sold at about the same prices iis yesteiday. , The demand wns reasonably good and the offerings mostly changed hands on the opening market. I.lkc the conference held at Salt Knko City , Cheyenne nnd Omaha , It has nd- Journed without having rent-bed nn agree ment Hint would prove satisfactory to both railroads. The most serious contention Li believed to bo over thy opening of the Ogdcu gateway to oilier railroads. Whether the Union Pacific will bo successful In lla efforts to have that gateway closed to nil other rail roads nave Its own remains nn open question. Most of the I'nlon ' Tactile olllclnln left New York City for Omaha yesterday. They nro expected In this cllv the latter part ot the week , either on Friday or Saturday. "Will the Ilurllngton appeal the Klngmnn case to the supreme court If an adveroo de cision should be rendered ? " wns asked Gen eral Solicitor Maiidcrson of the U. & M. by a 13ec reporter yesterday. "No , sir , " replied the Burlington official. "We can not afford to. We are engaged In building a $350,000 passenger station here , nnd If the work should be Interfered with , wt > can not afford to spend more money taking u case of this kind up to the supreme court. If the permanent Injunction agnlnst our building according to the plans prepared should bi > granted , we shall simply have to abandon the flue driveway nnd approach from Tenth street , which Is contemplated. Doing away with this feature of the now depot would save the railroad company $75- 000. On the other hand , it would compel all trafllc and travel to and from the depot to go away around by the way of Ninth street In order to roach the depot. " ltnlliviy \ < : | CH nml IV-rummlM. R. W.
