Whcnt , uftor nctlng \veftk nearly up to the end of the session , cloned firm ntWUc udvanco for the May option. Ixjwcr culilctt ciiuncd the weakness mill the HtrotiR St. LottlH market nd a poor Missouri crop report the closing streiiKth. Coni was almost stationary , ctoslni ; a shadu lower. Llvon'ool ' , the flno flprlng weather at liomc nnd liberal northwestern receipts con tributed to a break of from H to. % c , with which tradlin ; l whusit Commenced. The opening iinotntlonti for May" were from 72i,4c down to TiVtc , compared with 725ii72)io } ut the closu of the market yoHtcrday , and In the next forty-five mlmitcH the price hud been pressed down to 72V&C. At that point n report of the Missouri agrk'tiltural de partment , elvliiB the nvcniBO condition of wheat for a number of thu best counties In the Htato nt C3 and HUBBfstliiK that thu lull report wotlld reveal a lower nvornRe , vns rccclvpd. TJiat caused a recovery to 72Hc. Another crop report , however , wns of nillto a dirCeront churactLT nnd caused cnoufrli solllnj , ' to put thu prlco back to 72'it ! iiRaln. The nmallnesH of thcso Hue- tuatloim shows how dull and narrow trad ing was. Thu report In question was from the Winter Wheat Millers' league , with licadiiuartera at Indianapolis , and travu wheat conditions In the Hltxtea named na follows : Ohio , l : Michigan , ! I7 : Kentucky , U3 ; Tennciisco , 9714 ; Indiana , 77 ; Illinois , F/0. Liverpool quoted a decline of % d at the opening ; Ucrlln a loss of 91 mark. Chicago cage received ID oarloads. Minneapolis unu Dultlth received 133 cars , against 2HS a week HBO nnd 312 the corri'SpondltiB day of the jiruvloua year. Kxporta from Atlantic ports worn itKiiin small , amountltiB In Wheat and Hour to 193.000 bu. KtiBllsh consols were r > -lj ( of 1 per cent lower and It wan nnnored that Krenoh government securities had nlso declined. The latter rumor wan said to liavo been the occasion of a atroiiB siK'll in the market about 12:13 : o'clock , when the May prlco took a run up to 72c. All day It kept well above the previous day's clos- ItiB prlco for July and considerable hlBbei than Chicago July price. Dtirlni ; the last hour the prlco rallied to 73c , duo largely to u sharp upturn at St. Louis , where July Fold up to 73e. Tlio closing was llrm at 72Tdc. It was a simple case of continued staBna- tlon In corn. Fluctuations covered a rnrifce of 3-lCc , but It was not the result of any Increase In the volume of business. The opening was a shade under yesterday's llBUres and there was scarcely enough to thu market to change the price. Export clearances were 835,000 bu. May opened at 2Ue , sold between aiMj lic and 2l5ifj'2IT ' closing at 2l'/4c. The only animation displayed by oati was around the opening , when shorts soli qulto freely and brought about a sllsht de cline. Offerings were readily accepted aniT after a period of weakness prices rallied Thu firmness In wheat was a factor In the recovery. May opened a shade lower at I'fflVAo. and sold to lGsG17ip rallied to 17'/KU , where It closed. The provlslo'ns market was as devoid o Interest as the grain markets. A small run nt IIORS had no porceptlblo effect on the market. Armour was credited with llbera ( telling nnd this brought about a gradua decline. The feeling that the market on beef steers has been too high here of late , as compared with other murkclH , taken In con nection with unfavorable reports from other selling points , constituted an ele ment of weakness that was plainly foil this morning. Not only were the buyers Indifferent , but when they did talk busi ness their bids were Invariably lower. The trade In consequence was slow from slart to Ilnlsh and fully lOc lower In most cases. The early sales of choice fat cows and heifers wore about steady , and the most desirable among the offerings were soon cleared up. Tiu > common nnd medium grades did not take so well nnd the mar ket closed easier on such kinds. In the end a good clearance wns effected. Stockers and feeders were In moderate supply and that fact , together with the good demand , held the market steady In splto of thp decline on fat cattle , llopre- ' sont'atlvo sales : NATIVRS.
