0 TITE OMAHA DATIAr BEE : "WEDNESDAY , JULY 15 , 1800. COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Wheat Was Helped by the Hot Weather and Crop Damage. CORN EXHIBITED DECIDED STRENGTH Oa n Were A ' l\r , Imt l.nrmljmi tiiionl Arroiiiil , nml llcolileilly r I'rovUliiiiH Hail Only n .Miiilernte Triulc. CHICAOO , July II. rerslstent crop dam ages nnd the prevailing hot weather helped wheat today. The strength shown by the coarscil grains wan also of material nsslst- with Ic ad nnco , nnd September closed vance. Corn closed % c higher and oata Ic higher , both grains being nfCeelcd by liad crop reports. I'rovlslons Bliowetl some Btrcngth nnd closed slightly higher. In wheat ix deelded linprovcnu-nt In the volume of trade was noted today. The opening was rather cany and nt Blight re cessions , due to the heavy local and northwest - west receipts and the weak New YoVk stock market. Hut there wns little for sale und the market quickly hardened. The ad vices from the northwest all tended lo Dhow Increasing seriousness of the crop damage. The short Interest began to cover nnd there was good Inveslnicnt buying un der which the movement was pretty stead ily upward. The Uratlstreet's statement of the visible supply showed a net decrease of 2,011,000 bu. In the world's stocka , compared with n decrease of 3,171,000 mi. on tincor - rispomllng week of the year before- . That threw a damper on the bullish sentiment 'f nnd canned the price of September to sag .j ' gradually bark. There were plenty of buy ing orders , anil It did not lake long to closa up all tinofferings. . This sent thu market climbing In quick order again , and the close was at the top prices. Tnls late advance was helped materially by the Blrong corn and oats market. September opened ' .1,0 lower at fiom RVXtc to fi.VSic. ad vanced , steadily to fWjC. declined to 68'4c , ndvanccd and closed steady at n1c. Corn showed decided strength , being In fluenced by Uie bad crop reports , the mod- crate local recelpls and the expected re duction Of lake nnd rail rales today. HhortH were very active buyers miwt of the day , nnd the volume of business waa much better than of late. There- was some decline with the midday easiness of wheat , but small esllmaled recelptn for tomorrow ( strengthened prices ngaln. Seplember opened unchanged at 27'4e , sold up to ZSVzC , off to 2D)4c and advanced to 2SV4o , where it closed. Oats were active , but largely on local ac count and decidedly higher. Crop advices nro unfavorable and the market was also liclped by the advance In corn and wheat. September opened a shade easier nt from ir.yc to ifiTfic and sold up with slight lluc- tuatlons to 17c , closing Ilrm at Ifi7 < ic. I'rovlslons had only a moderate trade. I'rlccH were somewhat stronger at the opening \ylth the Ilrm hog market , but offerings wore liberal und a heavy feeling was soon Induced. The Until rally In grnln started prices up again , and the closing was steady at the early high point. Sep tember pork closed 7',4c higher at } Gfi3 , September lard 2M-C higher nt $ .1.72Vi. Sep tember ribs fie higher at $ .1.rr > . Estimates for Wednesday : "Wheat , ISO cars : corn , ISO cars ; oats , DO cars ; loss , 82,000 head.
