CHICAGO , July 3. The features of to- dny'n nmrltotVCIT Iho scml-pnnlo In lii'o- visions ana Iho resultant decline of 27 < 4c In l > ork and 10s 1st Inrd and rlbfl.Vhunt was affected by nrilvnM of now whent untl 11 Kcncral dlsiiOBltlon to close lines In view of the holidays and declined He. Corn and oats ruled wutik , also declining from > , ic to Uo each. It WOK a dull ilny In the wheat fit. nnd while the eaily trnnnnpllons wcro nt some advance HIP inurkct noon turned weak. It had every appearance of n holiday market and the buslncHS wn larRely In the way of evening up , an neither the IOIIRS or shorts were , atl a rule , \vlllliiK to stand on open trades until Monday. The early strength was due to the better Liverpool cables , the bullish Jllcxourl crop report which cnmu just at the close yntterdny , and did not become Roncrnlly known unlll the board had closed , and n fresh Installment of crop tlamitcu reports from the northwest , under these InlluenoeM there was a momentary buying spurt which cent the price tip Home- nt the start. Hut there was plenty of mill- at Iho advance , and an some doubt bi'Bm to bo felt as to the reliability of the dnm- HHO reports prices bewail to weaken. T nidp was not active enoiiRh to Ret up much In terest or call out much support , and as IOIIRH were disposed to close out In view of ( ho two diiyo' holiday , the market not weak and sold off lo from Iho lilqh mark. The liberal receipts at St. Louis S4.000 b\l- nnd freer movement at thin point , especially of new wheat , were factors which hud a tendency to cause the lietbnek to prices. The weakness of coarse grains and pro visions , together with the estimate of KO oars of wheat for tomorrow , caused tt fur ther decline and the market closed around the bottom. September opened about Vic lilfihor at W.v.c to fi7e. tinned weak and sold down steadily to Me , closing easy at DC Vie. Corn continued dull , excellent growtuR weather and weakness In wheat and pro visions was too much for dealers , the weak ness beliiK afigrnvnted by the heavy local receipts today and laruo estimates tor Mon day. Trading was mily moderately active and almost entirely on local account. Sep tember opened unchanged at 27rsC ; and Htcudlly declined to 27Vfc , closing weak at that llRuro. In oats there was but little doing. The feeling was easy and prices lower In sympa thy with wheat and corn. July opened a Bhade higher at IGvi'- . declined to and closed easy ni 15',4c bid. Provisions opened quiet but firm , the Bteady hog market having a favorable In- lluence , but after the heavy estimates ol corn for Monday had weakened that mar ket sellers of provisions became quite nu merous. It did not take much decline to Blurt stop loss orders , and considerable further break was the result of the scram ble to cover. September pork closed 2"/ lower at Ji..S2'- ( ! . The fruit Crop of the Pacific coast Is surely a Ight one. It IH better In Washington and Jregim than In California. In Washington , Trusts nnd excesflvc ruins , creating blight lit bloom time , caused young fruit to drop until ; ilums , pears , prunes , apples and cherries were eftery thin on tlie trees. In small fruits and iierrles theie Is an abundance. In Oregon the Injurious effects of April frosts and later cool winds thai extended almost to June nre now phowlng mini1 plainly In bare liees than was expected would result from them. Thu peiirh irop was perhaps more seriously In- 'ured In Oregon than ever bcfoic from such auxes , and the name effects extended to prunes , apricots , pears and apiiles. The frost Injured the buds and the cold rain killed thu embryo fuilt. The California fruit crop IB generally n imor one. In localities , peaches , prunes , nnd apples prumlfc well and ate ilpenlng In u satisfactory manner , while In other localities of the same- valley conditions art ! very unsatisfactory. Peach packers are very busy packing fruit In the Sacra mento valley , where that part of the fruit that lemalns on the trees has ripened In a satis factory manner. CSrapes will be somewhat late , but they nre turning- out much belter. than wan expected early In the teaton. It Is In regard lo quantity rather than quality that complaints on tlio Pacific coapt are made , as the small quantity on the IICCH was favorable to good development. In the mountain counties , where the frost came too early to damage , tlie pros pects for about all fruit crops are very heavy , with many trees breaking down under tile weight. Much thinning has to lie done tn those counties. Quotations : CALH-'OHNIA CHKHHIKS No shipping stock. HTHAWIIKIUIIKS Oregon. Hood Ulvcr , per 21-qt. case , J2.75 ; Colorado , ! 2.00iff2,75. PRESENT BUSINESS PURELY TEMPORARY IlcM Foniurc of IJiin'w AVoeliljTrnilc Hviiort IN lit < I'roNiicrt of u l\lK \ Crop of Com mill Onto , NKW YOHK , July 3.-n. G. Dun & Co.'s weekly review of trade which Issues to morrow will say : Current movements have been so largely of n temporary character , or else purely speculative , on the day by day plan , that they arc not highly Instruct ive. Thus tin extensive shutdown of cot ton mills Is solely In the hope that half production In July and August may clear 11 largely overstocked market. Stock tluc- tuatlons were still more ephemeral , Includ ing two sharp declines nnd partial rallies within a week , both laboriously ascribed to various political causes , but mainly due to keen operators who saw chances for n ( illicit turn. Extended views of the half year's operations In leading branches of manufacture go far to explain numerous stop pages. In woolens they arc without concert , illls waiting for orders , the sales of wool hav- , ng been not n third of last yenr'8 for the Fame euk , Prices arc depressed , but still depend n foreign posKlbllltles , In cotton goods , thu losing of many mills , both north ami south , for lalf of July nnd August Is In effect n recognl- lon of the fact that heavy Etocks of goods , ii.inufacttircil from cotton , costing between "He nd Mfcu , could not expected to show profits f the mills go on manufacturing until a new nd probably lu-avy crop of cotton Is ready. The eduction of pi Ices has brought out a large dc- nanil In many enpes , but not enough to meet he output for the millers. A further decline i print cloths to 2Uc it significant , when such ilecieaso In production In assured. The output f Iron has largely decreased , nnd there Is ulte a general stoppage of woika for repairs , nit the annual controversies about wages have , n most cntcs , been M'ttlfd , and It Is believed vlll be fettled In nil without strikes. The roblem , whether prices for coke , ore and bllli'ls , stabllshed by the combinations for this year , ian bn maintained DgalntU decreasing demand 'or llnlshcil products would be simplified If here were no combinations In nails and rails ml Home other ilnlthcd products. Wheat declined I'io ami recovered Hie , but vcstcni rtV'dpts continue remarkably large. : .441,71 ! ) bu. , against R41.940 bu. last year , for the : amc wcvk. Atlantic exports show a similar ncrc4ise , and for live weeks , Hour Included , IIIVP been 9S47R78 bu. , against 5E55,427 bu. last ear. The stocks In sight arc better than n ear ago. ami though winter wheat yields less , prlng wheat seems likely , with fair weather , to leld more than lait year. Corn promlFcs re markably well , and also oatn. This one Klor. ) Is holding out for what it declares is Its right and tl la In prospect that the quietude of this town will soon be disturbed by a pretty HUlo boycott upon that one store. "Mofiy" Is a hustler. Kor yejtrs ho haa been In charitc of the newsboys who sell The Uco nnd during that time ho has given the other nowsboyH cards and spmk'K In the art of selling papers , hast [ all , just before the state fair , he branched out Into the shoe blacking business. Ills trade haa reached such proportions that a short tlmo ago ho Ihted up an elegant establishment In n Karimm street store building. In tlie meanwhile the prominent shoo stores of the city had acquired the habit ot running free shoo shining stands for the benefit of their customers. They followed the lead of the one store which Is refusing to give up KH stand. "Mogy" has come to > the conclusion that thu giving of frco shlnca Is not a pnrt of the shoo business and Is , In , faet. Interfering with the legitimate shoo shining profession. In consequence of which decision ho set out n few days ago with a petition requesting that all the shoe dealcra discontinue their stands on und after July 15. This proposition met with the approval of the dealers. In fact , with one exception , they agreed to shut up the stands on con dition. The exception replied with a coun ter proposition. Ilo looked upon "Mogy's" Idea In a humorous light and answered facetiously. "Dear Sir. Mogy , " said the dealer , " 1C you will Induce all shoo dealers except us to go out of business and thereby give ua a monopoly , wo will close up our stand. " "Mogy" was a little sore over this. I-'or- thrcc-qunrters of an hour ho roasted the dealer , but It availed naught. Then ho dp- parted and since then he has laid awake nights thinking tip some scheme whereby ho may even up matters. Ho has about finished laying his wires. As the IIrat step , he Intends to lay the matter before the Omaha Retailers' associa tion , of which the stubborn shoo dealer la a member. He Intends to show that the ac tion of one nun Is interfering with a pros- perouo business In the city , which al ) "tlief other dealers In tnu city nro willing to reconnlzo. Ho bolloveu tlmt this notion will bear fruit , an many of the members of tho- association nre his customers and they have Informed him that they highly disapprove- ( f tl.e position Cf the slice dealer who stands out. out.If If that docs not give the elcaler all 'ho- wants "Mogv" has other strings to pull. He intends to put big ads for all the dealers who are willing to close up stands upon the walls of his shop. Alongside them ho will place signs auch ns these : "Go to 'a If you want your shoes doped , " " 's Is the place for the sucker to get his shoes elilned If ho wants to put up dough for new shoes every , week. " "Mogy" Is even talking of hiring a street squad to parade the streets wltU * similar signs. "Mogy's" scheme of boycott has othot ramifications. Ho has talked tlio matterj over with his numerous customers , some of whom are the most prominent men in the city , and has persuaded them to dis continue trading with the stubborn dealer , If ho docs not come to time. Ho haa oven enlisted the aid of the policemen. Three or four officers have already promlsceli that If the dealer does not como oIT hi a. perch they will steer strangers who ask fat * shoe stores away from his establishment and Into others.
