This was empty and It , Is supposed that the deceased - ceased tok the contents. In the pockets of Clair's clothes were found a number of letters . ters , which showe that his bus ness was that of drIving teams and buying and se'lng horses . In a letter to his sister In Iowa City which had been wrItten from Glenwoocl. he said that he had jU3t arrived from Denver . ' from which place he had driven with a team. A letter was also feunll from his brotimer W. J. Clair , an attorney of this city. Clair was about 40 years ohl and Ilatl some acquaintances here , having visited the city a number of times. tmes. On londay evening Jack Carney the man who I mentioned In the note left by Cair , met him on I.'aram street near Fourteenth str2et. Clair asked him what a dose of morl1hlno was , and at his request Carey went Into a neighboring drug store and found out. Carney advised him nol to use the drug without consulting a physician . but Clair said that he Intended to take I. as he was unable to Ieep. Clair also told Carey' ' that he was going away In the morning all wished hIm to take a trunk which was lying In an eXtlress omce. to which Carney agreed. As Clair stated In his note he drove to this city with a team , but when he arrived here thIs was attached , leaving him without auy- timing of value. The attachment was for some bills which his brother the attorney , had guaranteed. The two brothers have had trouble over these bills . and the deceased 111 expressed his opInIon to Carney that his brother was persecuting him. ' As could be inferred from the letters found on his person Clair has been a horseman all here trader. lie has made his heall- quarters In Omaha for the last twel'l y ars. lie was a relative of Matt Clair a pioneer railroad _ man of this cly.
