The Rescue , which headed the procession , carried a large transparency on which ap- pearCI the Maltese cross , the boat club em- blemn The decorations 01 the other boats were made with exquisite taste and as the hue swept out of the bayou on which the boat club house Is situated there was a murmur at applause tram the thousands gathered , at Grand Plaza , the club hD and scattered along the road on the east shore of the lake. The feet took a serpen- tine course to Manhattan beach each boat sending out a volley at fireworks In the dIrection of torts that had been built lp directon In the water , one near the Plaza and the other on the opposite side of the lake , not far from Manhattan beach. The bale be- tween the Merrlmac and MonItor . on the south side of the lake , was an attractIve feature. As soon as the exhibition was over there was a stampede out of the Plaza , everyone wantIng to take the first train up to tovn wantnr happened that accidents were so few Is a mystery , In view at the terrIble crush and I the mIserably small accommodations In the way 01 car. . . The cars were 'ac1'01 full to overflowing , but by far the larger part of the throng had to walt hal nn hour an hour or an hour and 1 hal before leaving the lake. The train that started at 10:10 : Friday night was stranded about half way between the two towns because the wheels of the cars persisted In slipping on the rals , The Supply of sand was unfortunately small , and. supply out , the supply of water In the engln' 's boiler was but little larger. I 'gave out almost entirely after fifteen minutes spent In puffing and pantng on the part of the engine , all barely enough was loft so that the later could let up to the corer or Broadway and Ninth street , leaving the traIn behind There more water was obtained - tamed and the engine went back after Its load. At length the attempt to start the train was successful , and the load of passengers - gers arrived at Broadway at 1:40 : , otter being on the ( road just an hour and thirty mlnnte After the carnival Friday night the mem- bers at the boat club entertained theIr lady friends at a dancing party at the club house. ! Doth houses were thronged with guests , and until the early hours of the mornIng dancing unt was the maIn amusement. Thursday evening Miss Dele Snyder gave a very enjoyable dancing party at her home on South Seventh street The feral decor- the dresses at the tons were exquisite , and ladles were In keplng with them. The floors were canvased and the evening was spent In dancIng to the music ef an orchestra About 100 guests were present tram Omaha all Council Durs , and dainty refrcshment were served. A little coterie or music lovers has been gathering frequently during the past few weeks at the houses of the members for the purpose 01 mutual enjoyment. Informality was one at the features that made these affairs enjoyable In hot weather like that at the past week , all some excelent mUHlc has been heard. 1onday evening Miss Julia Officer , who has been spending the summer with her parents , Mr. and Sirs. Thomas Ofcer , was the hostess. During her stay In Chicago she has made wonderful progress In her music all Is now considered one at time best pianists In that city. Frank Badol- let , .who Is also becoming widely known In the musIcal circles of the eastern cites asa a pertormer and teacher of the flute , was another member et the part ) An orchestra composed at Mr. Badolet , flute ; Paul Tul- leys , vIolin ; Charles Tule's , cello , and StIes May Tuleys , piano rendered a number of choice selections. Miss Officer and : Ir. " ' . I. Thlclestun played L St. Gottschalk's arrangement - rangement of the Wiiam Tel overture and Mr. Badolet played a number 01 his finest pieces. On the following evening Mrs. J. G. Wadsworth entertained a similar company at her home on Fourth street , and on Wednesday evening Miss Olcer again enter- tamed most 01 the program on the later occasion being rendered by Mrs. Wadsworth ! and the Dudley Buck quartet.
