The weekly crop bulletin of the Nebraska
weather service , co-operating with the
United States weather bureau , Issued by
Director d. H. Hunt , for week ended Juno U ,
says :
The reports , wlillo much more encouraging
than tlioso of the preceding two weeks , are
not quiteas favorable ns It was hoped they
would be. This U duo , no doubt , to the
fact that most of our correspondents for
warded their reports before the beneficial
effects of the rains of Friday night had
become very noticeable. Nearly all localities
In the state have been visited by refreshing
showers , and that they have been of In
calculable benefit to nil crops , except pos
sibly In Borne sections oats and winter
wheat , there can bo no question. Pastures
are reviving and corn Is growing nicely.
The acreage of the latter crop has been
further Increased by replanting poor Holds
of wheat and oats In corn. The Irish
potato crop shows remarkable Improvement
slnco the rains.

SOUTHEAST SKCT10N.
Duller County Corn , except late planting ,
looks well. Shoner of Friday night uns a
great blessing , extending to all parts of the
county. Pastures reviling.
Clay County Week generally favorable for
all crops. Late rains very beneficial. Oats
coming on In fine shape ; pastures reviving ;
corn doing excellent ; potato crop will bo
good.
Flllmore County Prospects more en
couraging ; heavy rain on night of 8th ; corn
growing finely ; pastures looking much
better.
Kurnas County Good rain in southeast
portion of county on evening of 8th ; con

About 5 o'clock yesterday morning ono of the
Union Pacific yardmasters telephoned Coroner
Maul that the head of a man had been found
lying beside the lower track at the Twelfth
street crossing. Search was made for the
rest of the remains. Under the Sixteenth
street viaduct the body was found. It proved
to be that of James Fox , an old-time resi
dent , who lived on Farnam , near Eighth
street.
Beside the head was half a can of 'beer.
The railroad people think tlmt Fox had been
drinking too much and lay down on th'o
track to Bleqp and that a switch engine came
along and cut his head off , throwing the body
onto the pilot.
Fox was the father of Mrs. Cummlngs ,
who was burned to death In her homo , 611
South Fourlecnlh street , on December 31
last. Coroner Maul will hold an Inquest ,
but the time has not yet been fixed.
The railroad people appear to know nothing
about the accident and It Is not known now
what time Fox was killed.
The deceased has been a resident of Omaha
for many yeafs. Ho was a prominent paving
contractor some years ago , but has not boon
engaged In active work for some tlmo.

Michael Rcdlngton shot himself In the
head yesterday with suicidal Intent and
died an hour afterwards. Worrying over
hard times and financial difficulties Is sup
posed to have been tlio cause.
The act was committed In a vacant room
of ono of Mr. Rcdlngton's houses , 1312 Dr-
cns street , about 10 o'clock.
For a long tlmo past Mr. Rcdlngton had
worried about being unable to .rent or sell
some cf hs property and ho WAS continually
complaining about tlio hard times and tha
mistake ho made In building so far south.
In the forneoon Mrs. Rodlngton prepared to
go ui > town and pay the city taxes on some
property. When Mic told him where aha
was going Mr. Redlnglon remarked , "Don't
pay any moro laxes. " He then left the ,
room and entered his vacant house next
door. The next llilnc heard was a pistol
shot.

The deceased was 65 years of age. Ha
came to Omaha twenty-six years ago nnd had
lived hero over slnco , working In the Union
Pacific shops for n number of years. From
nil accounts Mr. Rcdlngton was a sober , lu-
duslrlous man and had worked hard all hl
