While the rain of the past
liours ha * considerably changed the
tlon ot the growing crop , it norms to be the
consensus of opinion that small grain will
be but a half to a third of a crop as com-
jiared with 1B3S. Corn ha been visibly
benefited by local nhoweris throughout the
major portion of the elate , and If tbci > c
recur at intervals of a. week will give Ne
braska one of the biggest crops of corn in
Its-hlfUory. the acreage being considerably
Increased during the past two weeks by the
failure of the Email grain crops in some
sections ot the country. I
The following concise weekly crop report
has been prepared 1n the office of the gen
eral manager of the Burlington & Missouri
Kher railway as showing the condition of
crops on that system :
On the western division the conditions
are not very much changed over what they
were when the report was made a week ago.
They had lieavy local 'showers cast of Hold-
rcge , Oxford and Oberlln , and between Mc
Donald and St. Francis since last report.
These showers helped the appearance of
corn in these sections , but were too late to
do small grain any good. Favorable
weather from now on will make n corn crop
on that division.
On the northern division they have had
local showers In nearly every locality dur
ing the past wick , and much benefit has
resulted. Some of the reports show that
oats that would have been plowed up
will be allowed to stand since the recent
rains , and that there Is -chance for a part
of a crop , but this condition is not general
on the northern division. Small grain
generally is practically ruined , and we have
only the corn crop to rely on. In some
localities the acreage of corn is estimated
to be 25 per cent more than In previous
years. Corn acreage is certainly very
heavy.
Detailed report by counties and stations
on the southern and Wyoming divisions :
NEBRASKA.
Richardson County Fine rains during the
weok. Corn doing nicely. Small grain fairly
vvell. Not materially damaged by the latt
frost.
Kemaha County No rain during the week
to do any good In easterly portion of county.
Western portion had good rains. Small
grain doing fairly well where rains have
fallen.
Otoe County Light rains helped all crops
some. Small grain very light. Corn doing
well.
Johnson County Good rain during the
week. Corn doing nicely. Considerable
wheat plowed up or cut up for feed. Other
small grain poor.
Pawnee County Corn doing well , but needs
good rain. Small grain is a failure unless
good rains come quickly in nome parts.
Western portion of the county had good
showers last night , but too late to benefit
oats and wheat much.
Gage County Frost and continued dry
weather have about used up small grain.
Wheat is being cut for feed. Corn conlnues
to do well , but will need rain soon to save it.
Local light showers only during past week.
Lancaster County Corn doing very Tell ,
but will need rain soon. Small grain n
almost a total failure. Ualn would do it
very little good ; being pastured and.cut tor.

Saline County Small grain almost a total
failure on account of dry weather. Corn
doing well as yet , but rain must come soon
to save it.
Jefferson County Corn doing well. Small
grain not over half crop. , Local showers
doing no good during past week.
Thayer County Small grain light. In
jured by dry weather. Corn doing well.
Light showers.
Fillmore County No rain of any account
for over a month in southern part ot county.
Small grain mostly plowed tip , planted to
corn or cut for feed. Cora as yet uninjured ,
but needs rain.
Clay County Good rains help out. Small
grain cut. Corn crop will be light , not over
one-third crop at best. Corn doing nicely.
Nuckolls County Good rain over nearly
all of county. Small grain light , however.
Corn in good shape. Prospects good for
large crop. Acreage large , account of small
grain in "southern part ot county being
planted to corn , listers being used.
Webster County Good rain -in southern
part of county. Small groin one-third crop.
Corn donig well. In northern part corn not
doing well ; too dry to sprout it- Not coming
up well. Small grain almost complete failure.
Northern Franklin and Southern Kearney
Counties Small grain total failure. Goodly
portion of wheat and oats plowed up ana
planted to corn. Light rains last week came
too late to be of uny benefit. Corn not suffer
ing much , from dry weather as yet.
KANSAS.
Washington County Very good rains , but
too late to help small grain much. Will not
be over one-half crop oats or wheat. Corn
promises good stand.
Republic County Situation about the same
as above.
Doalphan County Rains. Crops doing
very well. Oats about two-thirds crop.
Wheat good. Corn average.
WYOMING DIVISION.
LltchSeld Only a sprinkling ot rain this
week. Not enough to do any good. Small
grain and pastures all dried up. Corn is all
up and seems to stand the dry weather fairly ,
well and will"maTie a good crop If we gft
rain within two weeks. Potatoes looking
well yet. Garden truck all gone on account
of Irost and drouth. Hay will be very
scarce this year , if we get any at all.
Mason Two light showers since last re
port. Small grain about done for. Late corn
coming up very poorly. Early corn needs
rain badly. Pastures drying up.
Ansley The crop prospects leinaln poor.
Corn will make a fair crop if we get rain
soon. Other crops are looking badly.
Broken Bow No rain for past month.
Small grain is pa.it redemption. Early corn
Is about all dead. Farmers say good rains
will make about ono-thlrd crop. Everything
depend * on rain.
Werna Wheat all dead for need of rain.
Com prospects good , bo far. Potatoes doing
fairly well. Pretty good shower on the
ibth and SSth , but .cannot fcfe that it did
any good on account ot the dryness of the
ground. Farmers discouraged.
Anselmo Very light shower the last week ,
tut not enough to do-much good. Farmers
have about given up all hope of raiting
anything at all this year.
Thtdtord Corn And potatoes have com
menced to grow again s-lnee the freeze.
Farmers discouraged on account of the i > oor

Seneca Crops bout the same ni last week.
Corn will be all right if it rains hoon. Grass

ALONG TUB MISSOURI PACIFIC.
In reply to inquiries sent out by Assistant
General Freight Agent J. 0. Phllllppl of the
Missouri Pacific to all agent * , the following
information was obtained :
Auburn ProBpects-ior corn fair. Oats and
wheat badly damaged on account of dry
weather. Prospective yield about one-half of
1K82. A good rain londxy night will help
out wheat dome.
Verdon I'reseflt outlook for crop 1 very
good. Wheat Is a little short , but has a
goo3 berry and ls well filled. Corn In doing
rplcfididly. A peed rain Monday night has
made things hump. The oats crop is both
short and thin.
Berlin Prewnt outlook for corn about
three-fourths of a crop ; other craln very
poor ,
Avoca Wheat and oats will be a total
failure ; corn looks well , and with anything
like a favorable reason will show as big a
crop as last year.
Howe Prospects Indicate corn PB j > er cent ,
wheat 50 per cent , oats and barley 30 per
cent of an avemge crep.
Weeping Water We expect less than half
a crop of small grain ; outlook for corn is
still good and acreage will belarge. . Quite
a lot of wheat has been plowed up and put
Into com.
Lorton Corn looks fine. Fall wheat has
been considerably damaged by drouth. Spring
wheat and oats very poor.
Springfield OaU will be nearly a total
failure. Corn is in first-class condition , but
must have rain in a rliort time.
Glcnrock Corn looks -well and is in good
condition , but wheat and oats will be a
light crop on account of the continued dry
weather.
Dunbar Oats and wheat about half a crop.
Corn Is looking very well.
Stella Latest reports from growing crops
are good , bettor than usual.
Louisville Small grain hero is very poor.
Corn Is In fair condition. Owing to the con
tinued drouth small grain will not make
half a crop.
Talmage Small grain very poor Indeed
not over 40 or DO per cent of a crop. Corn
about 75 per cent.
ALONG THE UNION PACIFIC.
The freight department of the t'nion Pa
cific gives the following : Small grams will
make about C5 per cent ct an ordinary yield
as far west as Columbus and on the Norfolk
branch. On the branches west of the Nor
folk line , leading to Cedar Rapids and
Albion , there will be a very llgh.t wheat nnd
oats crop ; probably 40 per cent west of Genoa
and Fullerton ; at Genoa and Fullerton , about
00 per centIn the territory west of Co
lumbus and on the branches north of Grand
Island and Kearney the tmall grain crop
is very light , not above 25 or SO per cent of
an ordinary yield , but a 25 per cent increase
in acreage. West of Kearney we get the
most discouraging reports on small grain ;
probably total failure. Jn the territory south
of Valdley. as far as Wahoo , small grain
prospects are good. West of Wahoo. south
to the Kansas line and to Strom .burg , 50 per
cent of the ordinary yield. Corn got a very
early start everywhere in the state and was
coming along nicely until the dry , hot
weather during the doting days of May.
Since then it has been at a standstill until
Saturday and Sunday lost. Good rains arc
touching all points in the state this week.
Corn is free from weeds and will make un
usual progress from this on everywhere east
of Sidney.
Conditions in Nebraska along the Rock
Island "have increased -considerably during
the past twenty-four hours , owing to the
generous fall of rain between Murdock and
Falrbury , the fall being anywhere from a
half to two Inchw. Nelson , Clay Center and
Colorado lines report generous rains during
the whole cf the night of the 5th , which will
lave a tendency to increase the -yield of
small grain and afxure a good corn -crop.

The Chicago , Rock Island & Pacific Rail
way company reports the following condition
of cropt. along its Iowa lines :
Davenport Crops in this locality in good
condition ,
West Liberty Crops need rain ; hay will
be light crop , but corn , oats , rye and pota
toes are looking well , also wheat , ! > utvery
little was BOWH in this vicinity. Small fruits
will yield well 1f conditions remain favorable.
Walcott Small -grain crop In fair condi
tion ; corn in good stand , fonr to six inches
high and good color.
Moscow Small graln1n good condition ;
corn in good stand , planted early , but being re
tarded in growih by cold weather and luck
of rain ; potatoes , in good condition.
Downey Corn doing well ; small grain
needing rain ; any crop will be all right if
rain comes soon.
Homestead Oorn looking fine ; prospects
fair for good crop ; tmall grain in need of

drouth ; do not expect over half crop ; Corn

Bevington Corn in this -vicinity growing
steadily ; hay short and light ; oats short ;
rye blooming shorter than usual , but will
make good crop ; potatoes coming out again
slowly , after being nipped by the late frosts ;
apples growing fairly well ; no good shape
for grapes , pasture very dry , except where
shaded.
Brooklyn Oats and hay crop are fair , but
need rain ; have a good prospect for potatoes
and stand of corn is excellent and in fine
condition.
Carlisle Crop prospect * for oats and -wheat
showing damage from drouth. Corn fair if
favorable weather comes toon. Half hay
crop.

Eagle Grove Reports from the lines west
of Jrwull show that the out crop in practi
cally detroyed by drouths. Small grain
of all kinds and hay arp light and will not
amount to much unless there are heavy
rains at once. Corn Is doing well and can

tonight with an appreciative Omaha audi
ence. The committee having the mutter in
charge has made all necessary arrangements
and predict thai every one in attendance
this evening will go'away well pleased with
the lecturer. The following are the expres
sions of a few of Omaha's -well known citi
zens regarding th * visitor :
Mayor Bemle I have not heard "Mr. Don
nelly since during the 70's , and I will take
great pleasure in listening lo him at this
time. The subjecl is certainly a broad one
and I am sure he will do It Justice. On the
majority of Mr. Donnelly's ideas I generally
agree with him and 1 nm surely as much
In favor of general municipal ownership of
public franchises as he can be. A better
subject could not have been selected.
W. F. Gurley While I do not agree -with
Mr. Donnelly on a great many things , I
know thai he is a brlllianl man and one
lhal can entertain an audience upon any
subject. Those who go to hear him -vrlU
never be sorry for going , and -would not
mlbs it for anything. He is a thorough
scholar and a complete master of the
English language.
W C. Wakeley Mr. Donnelly is a great
orator and everybody should go to hear him.
He is not only an orator , but a statesman
nnd a scholar , and the subject chosen for
this occasion is one of great importance at
this particular time.
Charles L. Bart I am glad to learn that
Mr. Donnelly is coming to the city to lec
ture upon such an important subject. Ho Is
an instructive speaker und those who hear
him will be .highly entertained.

ure of hearing Mr. Donnelly lecture , but
read considerable cbaut him during his term
in congress. I look on him as one of Ihe
-fine minds of the age , and a deep thinker
on account of his proofs and criticisms ot
Shakespeare's -writings and showing that
Lord Bacon was the real author. I will be
present at the meeting.

speak when In the city last. Was very much
pleased with his discourse. Shall certainly
avail myself of the pleasure of hearing him
