noyance at the thotighl lhat the mitt : r has
dragged so long. Henri has requested his
mother to provide him with a new still of
black clothes , two shirts , n pair of boots
and a new hat for nso at the trial ,
The court Is a long oblong' room with the

In 1SS2 , after the amnesty , and young Henri
was well educated , but lie became nlllllated
with the anarchlsls , and on May 13 , 1SBJ ,
following Iho llrsl anarchist attempts , ho
was arrested , but subsequently liberated.
His employer dismissed him on account of
his talcing part In the anarchist propa
ganda , and after his depasture ilucumenti
relating to the manufacture cf explosives ,
etc. , were found in his desk. Henri then
turned his attention to journalism , and was
for a time attached to the start of PKn

Has found In the olllces of the Carmaux
Mining company which appeared like a , cis.t- :
iron saucepan , the cover being fastened on
hccurely. H was given Into the hands cf.
the commissary of police , and as it was be
ing carried away exploded , killing two po-
1'comen and wrecking the room. The bomb
had been wrapped In a copy of Lo Temps ,
In which was an article relating to the ar-
resi of two anarchists , I3mll Henri and his
lit other. Fortune. Investigation showed
the latter was in liDtibPois on November 8 ,
when the bomb explosion occur ! oil , and
therefore suspicion naturally fastened It
self on ISmll Henri , who' disappeared Im
mediately afterwards and who sought
refuge in England. December 20. ISUS ,
Henri hired a room In the Villa Faucox ,

similar to the one which had caused the
death of the three men In the Hue dea

explosives and surrounded them by 120 bul
lets , a smaller nnd center cylinder of zlna
containing Ihe chomicnl which was to cansi
the explosion. Finally , the priming con
sisted of a dynamite cartridge having a cap
of fulminate of mercury , to which was nl-
taclied u fuse calculated to burn fifteen sec
onds.
On February 12 of the piPhent year Henri
left his room after having notified the porter
that lie would not return for several days ,
and went away , currying his bomb , IIUo
Valllant. attached to the bell of his trousers
and concealed by his overcoat. Henri was
armed with a levolver , the bullets of which
he had previously chewed , In order that
they might do the most harm , wounds in
dicted by chewed Imllets being considered
almost certainly fatal. Ho also carried a
dagger with a poisoned point.
Armed In this manner Henri went toward
the Avenue de 1'Opora and glanced Into the
restaurant Diction and then went to the
Pafo Amcrlcaln. Not finding these placet
as full of wealthy looking peopln a.s 1m
expected he went to the Cafe do la 1'alx ,
but even that establishment was not full
enough of his prospective victims , nnd so hn
eon tinned on Ills way until ha arrived at
the Cafe Terminus , situated beneath thi
hotel of lhat name.
It was about 8.30 when Henri reached thH
spot and found It to bo well filled with people
ple , who wcro crowded around n platform
upon which an orchestra was playing. Iln
entered and took a seat at a small tabln
near Ihe door , paid for a glass of beer , drank
It , called for n second glass and then for a
elgar. lie was walling for the crowd to
become larger.
At 9 o'clock Henri look the lighted cigar
from his mouth and applied It to the fuse
altached to the bomb which ho had con
cealed upin lil.s person. He then arose ,
walked toward the door nnd , suddenly turn
ing around , he threw the bomb In the dliee-
tlon of the orchestra. The bomb struck thn
clcctilc light ehamlcllcr nnd fell In the
ground , throwing out a thick blank smoke.
A few seconds later the bomb exploded \ \ ith
dull detonation , tore a deep hole In the
Homing and more or less severely \\uuiviixt
seventeen people. Henri fled , seeking to
divert suspicion from himself by crying out ,
"Tho miserable wretch ! Where Is IIP' "
He was pursued , however , and at the eorn ref
of the Kite du Ilavio and the Him d' I'uly
was overhauled by n man nnmed 12'einto ,
Henri drew his revolver and llred Htralht
at Iltelnte's breast. The bullet , happily ,
blrtick n large billion on the man's breast
and did not wound him , but the shuck
caused him to fall noiseless to Ihe ground ,
