The first ballot after the Jury retired yesterday morning showed that ten of them Here willing to let McGuIre re sume the Joya of his Interrupted honeymoon , and the other two quickly came to the same conclusion. After a short consultation n verdict of acquittal was reached and re turned to the court. When Mcdtilro was brought In to hear the verdict ho took a seat near the Jury. For the first time during the trial his wife was not at his Bide Shu had accompanied him from the Jail , but when she reached the top of the big staircase her courage failed her and she refused to enter the room and hear the verdict. Her hulband faced the ordeal alone and she remained In the cen tral corridor. When the \cidlct was ren- dnrcd the prisoner seemed to 'bo half pnr- alyred with Joy for an Instant. The wife had slipped out of sight behind 0110 of the column' ] and didn't notice the procession her happy husband was leading She did not hear the ne\\s until the party had gone half way to the Jail building Then BIO ) rushed through the hall and down the stairs sobbing and crjlng , 'Oh , Doug1 Doug ! where arc you ? " The happy Doug heard the cry and reached the foot of tlio sheilff's stairway In time to catch the sobbing wifeIn his arms as she sprang from the sKth step. It was not until after the close of the trial that the llttlo romance that every body knew was connected with the case was brought to light. Mrs. McQulrc was engaged to McOuIre four years ago , but before the marriage could bo solemnized the joung man was arrested and sent to the penitentiary for sK years. After scrv- Ing three and a halt years he was pardoned , and immediately after he regained his liberty ho wedded the young girl who had no devotedly lo\cd him. In a very short time after tlio marriage he was arrested on the charge upon which he was Just tried. Mrs McGulrc was a Miss Swift of Lin coln and Is highly spoken of by those who Know her and her family. McGulre's people ple live In DCS Molnes and are said to be well fixed. A. L. Pavne of Council nitiffs , who Is a dealer In stock , had a lot of pigs affected with cholera and considered the case so hopeless that he offered to give them away.
