Till ? OMAITA DAILY BEE : FlUDAY , MARCH 2 , 1801 , COMMERCIAL AND FINANCIAL Wheat Wna Strong , Advanced Eovcral Points and Closed at a Qaini TlltRE WERE NUMEROUS BULL FACTORS llctlrr CnlilrN , Hie Kiport Clcaranccd nnil H Itciiorlcil lrrrpi o In tlio Visi ble Supply AVrro Features of the Dny , CIIICAQO'March 1. Wheat was Mrong nnd advanced lc , retaining % c of that at the close. Uettcr cables , big export clearances In the visible ances nnd a reported decrease supply were pronounced bull factors nnd fair buying aided In the advance. A re- "vision of the visible supply figures later caused a reaction near the finish , but May was $ Jo from the bottom at the close. May corn Is unchanged , May oats He higher and provisions lower nil around. Wheat started firm at about , ic improve ment over yesterday's closing prices. Tlicro was some selling for n few minutes and nfter a decline In the price from 59&C , Its .fnrtlnp t.nlnt. tn from 59V4C to 59C , It turned nnd advanced under a strong demand. I-or an hour and a half there was a largo busi ness done. Commission houses were we mippllcd with buying orders , largely In small luts , but there wns plenty of those , and ic und more was quickly added to the prlco nfter the small decline already mentioned , lly 11:30 : o'clock C0-c was paid for May. The Cincinnati 1'rlce Current said that thn week had bce.i moro trying than previously for wheat. U remarked also that Interior supplies were so reduced that mills are obliged lo draw heavily on market centers. A supplement to that was received In pri vate dispatches from the Cincinnati Price Current which gave an cstlmnto of the wheat In farmers hands , placing It at 86,000.000 bu. less than at this time a year ago , GI.OOQ.OOO bu. less than the nveargo for twelve years nnd 12,000,000 bu. less than the smallest Block In these years. In addition to the effect of these figures , the clearances of wheat and flour from the four principal At lantic ports amounted to about 000,000 bu. Receipts were Cl cars , against 43 last year. Minneapolis reported 223 cars and Duluth 31 earn , compared with 277 cars and 22 cars respectively on the corresponding day of last year. Liverpool stocks were 1,200,003 bu. smaller now than on February 1. A drop of" 1-lCd In English consols caused some addition to the bullish feeling whllo the advance was In progress. The top of the bulge was reached about 12:15 : o'clock , and then some sifting of the 1'rlco Current's figures caused a revulsion of feeling In the crowd. On Inquiry of the editor of the Journal he staled that he esti mated the present stock , exclusive of what Is In the regular visible supply , at 130,000,000 bu. , and as the government gave the farmers' stock a year ago nt 135,000,000 bu. that ex planation took the edge off the bull feeling which the first manner of putting forth the statement had produced. The Price Current's comparisons arc all made with Its own pre vious estlmales. Cables gave an advance at Liverpool from ' /id to Id. The decline from the highest price of the day stopped at COUc , which was the ruling prlco nt the close. Corn was aga'ln quiet , the market attract ing but little attention , fluctuations being narrow nnd trading local. A steadier tone prevailed and prices were a trifle firmer , though the closing showed but little change. The market was governed to a great extent by the action of wheat , as has been the case all the week. The opening trades were at nbout yesterday's final quotations and after pelllng down from % c to % c , recovered the decline and ruled steady , and Mny closed 'fcc from the top. In oats there was a better feeling and prices averaged slightly higher In sympathy with wheat and corn , and also owing to the email offerings. Prices advanced from % c to Vic and the close was steady , with May midway between the day's top and bottom figures. Provisions opened weak and lower on the receipts of live hogs at the yards being nbout 9,000 over the estlmntes nnd a decline In prices for them. These who bought yesterday sold out today , resulting In a moderate break. Trading was quite active and more so than for some days past. Some outside selling orders came In , presumably for a prominent packing Institution. The strong feeling and covering o ( shorts later were responsible for a very moderate ad vance , but the undertone of the market was weak In the absence of support and made Itself felt shortly before the end of the ses sion , prices easing off slightly and closing fairly steady for pork and ribs and ( Inn for lard. Compared with last night. May pork Is ICc Tower. May lard lOe lower and May ribs 7c lower. * Estimated receipts for tomorrow : wheat , 62 cars ; corn , 450 cars ; oats , 208 cars ; hogs , 30,000 head. Hccclpts wore only inodernto nnd of the usual miscellaneous character , but pastern markets were bettor , and while , as la usually the en so on Thurs day , there was not much outside demand , the buyers for dressed beef houses all acted as If they wanted cattle , and where the stuff suited they did not hesitate to pay an ad- Vanr.n of lOn. IIvnu Hin fnlr tn irnnil flnahv steers that sold to the best advantage , the extreme heavy beeves and the common light and only partly fatted cattle showing a little more life nnd that was about all. The feel ing was better on all sides , and by noon a very decent clearance had been effected. It was nbont the same way with cow stuff. In occasional cases Homothlng that a buyer wanted right bad sold lOc butter , but for the most part good , strong prices pre vailed and trade was lively , the twenty-odd loads on sale soon changing hands. Calves sold steady at full Wednesday's figures , and the same was true as to rough slock of nil kinds. In stockers nnd feeders the trade was rather quiet , but prices were generally well sustained , partially on the moro desirable grades. Country buyers think prices too high the way fat cattle are selling , and their t purchases are rather limited. Oood to choice feeders are quoted at from $ .t to $3.20 ; fair to good at from $2.7f. to $3 , and lighter , commoner grades at from $2.75 down. Representative salt's : UHE.SSED HEEK. No. Av. 1'r.
