The auxiliary Young Woman's Christian associa tion , of which Mrs. Young is president , Is holding a bazaar. It was oprnca at 1 o'clock and will continue this evening. The jury awarded himl-)5li. ) This case was bitterly fought In the district court by both sides , About two years ago West Point voted $7,500 in bands for which a sewer was to bo built. The sowoi1 was to drain a large water shed near town and was to run through Bridge street to the river. B. Khoel secured the contract , but the city council , being dis pleased with his slow progress and the time for completion of the contract having ex pired , determined to cancel the con tract and thereupon work on the sewer was discontinued. Trouble is expected on the Slioshono reservation trom the efforts bolng inndo by Captain Hay , the military agent , to supprcsa immorality and polygamy among the Indians. A few weeks ago ho bad a number of Indian maidens , who In sisted on visiting the post the soldiers' pay day , arrested and sent thorn back to their lodges with their heads shaved. This was considered a great Indignity among the Shoshoncs and Arapahocs and they wcro in bad humor when last week the captain called a number of chiefs before him and ordered them to dispense with all their wives but ono. For several weeks a gang of crooks , among them "Kidney" Meyer , Joe Blum , Hurley" Graves and "Kid" Sncll , have boon operating a confidence gaino at 3H ) Third street , and although exposed by the newspapers were not molested by. the police. They have made it a plan to make "steers" from early morning trains to their place and work the dollar store racket. This morning Meyer or "Kidney , " as ho is better known among crooks , picked up A. H. Phllley of Kansas City at ouo of the depots and then steered him to the place where Joe Blum was waiting. They confidence , ! htm out of his money. When ho saw thut ho was swindled ho demanded his money back. Both men resisted and Philloy shot them. Blum was shot twice through the heart and Meyer once through the heart. Philloy then took his money , went to the depot and took a train for Kansas City. Browdv fell from the too of a freight car yesterday morning1 near Cromwell and was fatally injured. Ho stenned on the icy car top and fell , striking on his head. The alleged corruption is In connection with the recent attempts lo decide upon n now cemetery location. The meeting today was hold with closed Uoors and its proceedings are to bo kept secret until after a report- made to the council. Convicted ul Seduction. DCS MOINES , Dec. 1C. [ Special Telegram to THE BEE.I Dr. John A. Campbell , dean of the Iowa Veterinary college of this city , was today convicted of seduction. His victim was Miss Mary Hirschman , who was in his employ for a time. The trial has been in progress all week. The jury was out less than half an hour.
