rooted disinclination toward hard work.
They love to sit In the saddle , swing the

him out of camp.
On the day I allude to PondleUm's
conduct had been especially distasteful

wo were short-handed , with a big job to

had ridden away in the morning on the

stray bunch of cattle , and had returned
late in the afternoon empty-handed , as

Throughout this harangue , unit inter
esting sketch of Mr. I'eiulloton's career ,
his pistol , when nut absolutely pressed
against my brew , was never more than
two or three inches removed from it. I
was perfectly cool and collected , and en
gaged in calmly ostlmnting my chances
of life or death. Kvery means of con
cluding the unwelcome Interview pre
sented Itself to me in surprisingly
regular succession. I could grap
ple with my menacing assailant ,
and easily throw him ; but the pistol wua
