( Special Telegram to THE BEE. ] At 1 o'clock today May wheat was at the best price of the Jay , 79 > c. The ran go for the session was but X" , but the pit was active most of the tiino and there was n good business , Including not a littla ' from Now York nnd the northwest. In n general wuy the local trade antagonized . < Pnrdrldgo am ) Hutchlnson and played for n break all day long. It Jtd not como. The bottom llguro for May , 78Jfo. was but J c under the opening and > c under the closing prjco of last night. Just at the opening there was a lltllo bulge from 78c to 79Vc followed by tvlight for the control at 78 ( < S79c. After n drop to 73 fc the rally was quick to 79c , and after selling bacit under that flguro good buying about midday put the price to 79c. Plilllipps wns back from the southern whpat Holds and not only said tbero was no serious damage but was a seller In the pit. The general fall of snow over the mostof the wheat bolt was of course a bearish Influence. There was nothing very decisive In outstdo news. Liverpool quoted spot wheat * /d up early , out Paris reported wheat and flour easy. The northwest bought wheat and Now York tfold here. 1 hero was considerable playing for advantage In the pit ny heavy local oper ators. Pardridgo was a persistent buyer through many brokers. Hutchlnson bought heavily nnd acted as it ho thought ho had the crowd short. Poolo's buying was cred I ited to Kent and bis followers. Warren and * Gcddcs bought around 79c. Liverpool buyIng - ' \ Ing orders were executed In futures. The leading soiling early was by W. F. Cobb & Co. and Schwartz & Dupeo , the latter said to bo unloading by Bloom. There was a lit tle lussla In wheat just at the close to decide whether May should close over or under 78c. The close was at 78 ; < c , exactly the same as yesterday. Other closing prices wore : March 78c , Juno 78Jtfe , July m c. Thrso were the bottom prices of the day for Juno and July. U was claimed nt the close that the New York selling in this market was In anticipation of the'government state ment duo hero next Monday , but which Is suspected of leaking out In Now York. TDC corn market was not disturbed by any Important trading nor by any news from the outstdu. In this market Aid rich and Sockel were fair buyers early , but offerings were more free later and any blight gain was lost. The range was narrow. March 23) ) 0. May sold at 29Jfo and 29.29JfjO , closing at i.9-tfc. Other closing prices were : April UOc , Juno 30c , July 30o , August UlXc. September 32c. Oats were quiet and steady , with trading mainly of u local character. 1 he demand \vas not urgent and offerings were moderate. This dues not affect trading hero and tin price changes were small. There was considerable business in the way of Rolling March nnd buying May at n lo - difference. Futures b'oyond May were neg lected. Carlots of No. 2 in store were dull nt 20 > 4@-0 c. No. 2 white in store was slow at 22 ; o bid. The market for bog products attracted very little attention today and trading was unusually light in nil departments. L.ocal operators were not inclined to do much busi ness and orders from outside parties wnro smaller than for several days past. The re ceipts of hogs wore moderately free at all principal western packing uolnts , with pri ces rather favoring buyers. 'The report of the packing of the west for the week showed n decrease of 25,000 hogs , but this appeared to hava ilttlo effect on tha market. Eastern reports Indicatol a quiet feeling in that quarter and the advices from Liverpool quoted a M decline In lard. Arrivals of pro ducts were only fair , while shipments of ull kinds were liberal , mainly by eastern lines. Speculative trad ing was confined within narrow limits and fluctuations in prices were slight. Trading was chielly in small lotnanil for May atd July deliveries. Transfers between these ' months'wore made at the current difference of lOu on mess pork , 10@l2) ) o on lard and 10@12Koon sbortrib sides. The changes in prices were meagro and the market closed tame at about yesterday's figures. The ship ping demand was light and offerings were somewhat limited. Inquiry was chielly for small lots and buyers were rather slow to pay while holders were slow to grant con cessions. Transactions indicated very Ilttlo change In prices. CHICAGO iaVE STOCK. Receipts of cattle wore estimated at 2,900 compared with 2,730 yesterday. The re ceipts this week have been very liberal , being 9.1&5 , an average of 2,290 per day. While there uro some bunches of good cattle on the market , the receipts are of u comuionlsh order , The market on steers opened lower and very slow , dragging along through the forenoon and even till after dinner with no Ufa , buyers being Indifferent and tfellor auxtouti. Wullo there wore ) a few sales reported ported steady at yesterday's prices the mar ket ruled 5o to lOo lower , some sales being reported oven lower than lOo under yester day's quotations , closing- weak with considerable unsold. There were fewer cows among the receipts In proportion than yes terday and as a consequence cow tared better thau steers. The market opened slow with sales made readily on any. thing desirable ana clean. Buyer * were particular and would retuio anything not In viting , but paid about luo tame figure * for what they wanted that ruled yesterday. Bales were reported as much as 10s tower than yesterday , but they were exceptional ones. Buyers think they paid as much for the same quality as they paid yes terday. On account of buyers selecting the Dent cows sellers wnro made to fuel that the market was being shaded. The sales Indi cate no change except on the least desirable. Nearly all of the latter sold before the close ot the m irket shaded off In some cases 5@ lOc. Feeder * nnd stackers continuo Insufll- ciont to moot the dnmands and prices rule firm nnd high. Bulls , particularly largo , line export bulls , have boon active nnd strong selling as high an $3.50. One lot of heifers sold at $1.30. I lot-i. Receipts of noes estimated at 3,700 to gether with 450 stale ones , made a very liberal - oral eupply. The market opened with the fresh meat men bidding $3.75@3.SO , 5o lower than yesterday , while the buyers of heavy weights practically remained off the market , offering only $3.70 , nnd waiting till the good hogs were nil sold. At midday twenty loads remained unsold with $ .5.70 being bid. A dozen loads remained nt the cloao of n slow and declining market In tbo pees unsold , Sheep.
