Governments Quiet and steady without
change except that the morning advance of
\o \ tor registered 4i's was lost and 3's were
quoted lo higher.
Stocks Were somewhat irregular with n
special weakness at times in grangers and
Vandorbllt's and a great deal of strength in
most of the Gould stock , especially the Pa <
xlfio Mail and Manhattan consolidated. Dur
ing the first hour the market was very active
and the opening losses wore generally recov
ered. Later there was a small decline , then
another rally , and In tha first hour another
selling movement which continued till the
close and loft prices this evening for the mos
active. Stocks wore decidedly mixed. O
the twenty-six most active stocks on the Ua
thirteen arc lower , tbroo unchanged and ton
higher.
