Saturday , but the decline was immediately
chocked , and the upward movement which
followed continued until late in the after
noon , when , on some realizing , and the publi
cation of the news to the effect that the cut
ting of rates in the west was spreading , the
market reacted a fraction , but closed firm at
prices which in most cases are a fraction
higher than they closed last week. The war
news has ceased to have any decided effect
upon the market. To-day's business , al
though light , was mora than do-abla that of
Saturday.
