AN IMP03TRIX Goes Mailing fur buckora nud Gote Not A Ultc. A BEK ropoitor was dispatched to the vicinity of the depot yesterday supplied with the outlines of a fine story of love , martiigo , cruelty and ilosortlon. Swiftly an a horse car could carry him ho wont on wings ( so to say ) of curiosity and per haps cheek. Sedately entering the hos telry ho called for nnd spoke to the land lord , who scowled upon him when ho learned his errand. "She's gene , sic ; I can't say whore ; she left yesterday ; I don't ' know anything about her. I don't ' want to mix up with such things. " The reporter took that landlord's measure in a jiffy , and loft , knowing that there was n cat in the meal tub somewhere nnd determined to find the pusry. Something told him that the f- fablepolito ( ? ) ( i ) and gentlemanly ( ? ) landlord had good reason not "to wnut to mix with such things , " so ho walked oil and whistled for the little bird that toll ! newspaper people lota of things they do not put in the papers , bless your soul , dear roador. The story is short. Tlioro was no f.ilt young wife , whoso tears nt cruel treat ment hid scalded the bloom of youth and beauty from her downy cheeks ; nc modest , retiring young mother , who piteously told her tale of love , fidelity , marriage and disappointment , with de sertion and n cold world's charity poured over all as n aance ; no bright-eyed baby , unable yet to prattle dear papa's name or coo and coo at a fondly gazing mother who loaned worshiping ever the cradle , as the young cherub busied itself trying to swallow "baby's gtroat too. " No in deed , none of this. But thcro had boon a woman with n well trained 9-year-old boy stopping nt the hotel kept by the pnllto gentleman ( ? ) , who had been anxious to find a po- llcoman and sympathizing hoircra , that she might toll a story of how Ike Dur- phy , magic namol had brought her to Omaha , irhoro ho would BOCUTJ a job an an engineer and make a homo for her and "our darling babe1' (9 ( years old ) . And how ho had gene off with all her money and left her awaiting his return from searching for work. How she had nc friends and no means of paying her ex penses , etc. , etc. , to the end of the chapter. The little bird further told the BEE man that she was an impostor , rank and and ready , that she failed to "catch on to" nny moro Ike Dnrphya hero and took the train west day before yesterday , with "pur darling babe , " -whore , under the wide-brimmed hats of the bighearted - hearted cowboys of the plains , eho may find solace for her wounded love and balm for her torn and laooratod heart ; and anything else she can find , that she did not find in Omaha. This is all the little bird's story , and it is true , because that little bird never tolls a lie. The disgust of the reporter at this ending of his mission , was only equaled by the deep sense of obligation ( ? ) ho felt foi the courtesy of that polite and gentle manly landlord. A FAITHFUL LOVER AVlio Wants to Marry A Girl Wronged by Anotbor , An elderly man , named John Kramer , has been in the city for the past few days and was arrested Thursday on the charge of Intoxication. Ho was released yesterday on a promise to leave town immediately and return to his homo in Gage county , Iowa. His story as told to Officer Turncnll , who was delegated to ojcort him to the train , is cno embodying several points of quite romantic interest. It appears that some years ago he fell in love with a young girl , Hattle Willi ams , then but 17 or 18 years of age , living in Gage county. She was , It seems , indisposed to receive his advances with any degree of warmth , but gave the preference to another youcg mm who appeared to be an nonest suitor for her hand and for whom , by reason of his "taking" appear ance , she thought that she entertained a nlphcr degree ot affection. This younger and more successful lover proved villainous in his designs , and in an evil hour accomplished the ruin of the young girl. She gave birth to a child In August , 1884 , and fled from the scene of her Bhamo to Dennis , Iowa , where assuming a widow's weeds she se cured a position as servant In a boarding house. Kramer , whose love and heart wore as true as steel , did not cast off and disown the fal len girl as others had done. He still loved her , and traced her to her homo in Dennis , whore ho sought and offered to extend all aid in his power. The girl was overcome with shame and came to Omaha where she turned her child over to the Woman's Chrhtlan association , and asked the ladies of that organiza tion to ciro for it until eho could reclaim it. She then returned to Dennis and confronted by Kramer told him the story of her ruin nnd disposition of the child. Ho came to Omaha with the ono puippso of seeing the babe and helping to provide for it. Ho loft some money for the care oi the infant , and promised to provide so far M he could for its support. Ho left herd this morning with the avowed Intention nf hunting up the mother , Hattlo Williams , and asking hoi to become his wife. That oho will accept his band , preferred in defiance of every stern conventionality and every mandate of that strange god "Society , " ho is fond ly sanguine. B. H. In connection with the recent com mencement exercises of the Omahs Med ical College , there has boon considerable comment , in comparison of the homo In slitntlon with the medical college of Lin coln. The toner of these remarks in Lincoln papers , malicious or otherwise , has boon unjust to Omaha. The fact of the matter is that the homo institution has had to Gght Us way against a series of such attacks pro longed during the four years of its growth. It has withstood them all , and while it does not invlto disparaging and fovll criticism it Is ready to stand on Its own merits. The college being located adjacent to the St. Joseph hospi tal , and the members of its faculty being connected with the hospital , its curri culum presents most thorough advan tages for clinical Instruction in all its branches. The hospital itself is doing n grand -work throughout the state , being ono of the largest in the west , and to all its wards , which present a wldo diversity of interesting - osting cases , the young men of thoOmaba Medical college have access ; receiving practical instruction In diagnosis at the bedside of the patient and beiae ; allowed a personal examination of orery typo of human disease. In this respect , indeed , there can be no comparison with other institutions of the state or of the west. The fact of Omaha being the railroad centre of Nebraska brings to the atten tion of the students also a greater variety of cases , especially of a snrglcal nature. The members of the faculty com prise the boat medical talent of the city as well os the state. Furthermore , the Institution is char tered nndor the laws of Nebraska , and requires none of the funds of the people , bat is self-supporting. * The f ntnro of the Omaha Medical college - logo is assured , and is full of encourage ment to those who have labored long and earnestly for Its success. Lowls and WnUli Set Down Upon. To the Editor of the BEE. I see by yesterday's Republican that the workingmen have ( using a vulgar phrase ) completely sot down on Jaaon R. Lewis and Ed. Walsh. This I am glad to sco. Since they have been pushing themselves forwatdas the would-be leaders of work ingmen , there has baen nothing but die- cord in the ranks. The cheek of this man Lewis must have got greatly inflated while sojourning in Lincoln , when ho as sumes the responsibility of calling a city convention , ho not being a member of the committee , if there bo one , that has the right to call the same. It is evident toall from his action , and three others of his stripe , that they wore again laving their plans to foist themselves upon the worklngmon so as to have another chance to gull the candidates in the present cam paign. Worklngmon ignore such would- ha champions of labor ; they are now at thoond of tholr rope. A LABORER.
