The little three year old son of Rov. T. J. Mackny , entertained uonio of his little tlo friends Saturday afternoon. Mr. Rufns Mcrrlam and Mrs. Juliotto A. Henderson were married Saturday evening by Rov. T. J. Maokay. Strawberries retailed at a number of atorcs on Saturday for fifteen conta per quart , and two for twenty-five. Herman Roderinachor , a young follow from Sioux Oily , who had run away from homo , wnfl arrested here nnd taken back Saturday by his father. The entries for the Iowa trotting cir- cuit.Tvhich embraces Cedar Rapids , Mar- ahalltown , Council Bluffs nnd Dos Moinoa , close at 11 o'clock to-m'Kht. The Macedonia post of tlio 0 , A. II. has a now banner , it being handsomely finished in black and gold on a back ground of blue silk. The post has also presented itself with a now national flag. James Donehoo , H. Hammer , John Smith. S. Sampson and Evens are invited to appear in police court this morning to answer the charge of being drunk. The LoTTloura , who bothered Council Blufls BO long with their [ quarrolings and drunka , have boon ordered out of Platts- mouth , whither they went from hero. They are a hard couple , The 0. B. & Q. is to build a handsome now depot at Shenandoah this summer. It is to bo hoped that the "Q. " will not forget that Council Blufls is in need too. The rickety old shell now called a depot is a disgrace to both the road and the city. city. The The police made 175 arrests during May , a larger number than in any month in the city's history , but many of theao were fellows found sleeping in box cars and vagrants who were driven in by flocks nnd lot out about an soon as ar rested. The board of trade moots in regular aossion this evening. There should bo a fall attendance. If the members of the board would only turn out to these meetings - ings and take hold in earnest much more might bo accomplished for the good of the city. ' The attendance at the opera house Saturday night at "Otto.a Gorman , " was not very largo. The play was somewhat superior to these which are generally put on the boards hero , but there have boon so many poor shows that the public has lost confidence. A mad dog caused excitement at Hen derson. It bit two other dogs , ono belonging - longing to Mr. Darnell and ono belonging to Mr. Baungarton , and a steer belonging to Carter. The bitten animals have boon tied up , and the original mad dog was chased nearly to Macedonia , where it was overtaken in the woods and killed. All persons having claims for labor , Uowcra , or other material for decoration purposes , either against the G. A. R. or decoration committee , will please send them in immediately for payment to the auditing committee , consisting of H. 0. Barnes , D. B , Daily. John Lindt , D. Slaltby and J. 0. DoHaven. The Danebo society made an exc llont showing in the parade on Decoration day and though not Americans by birth , they showed themaolvcs Americans in spirit and loyalty. After the parade they were photographed at the Knickerbocker gal lery on Main street nnd now have excel < lent pictures to send back to their f riundi across the waters , giving a llfo-liko show ing of how they nupearod in full regalia H The sheriff of Polk county , Mo , , wai here Saturday after Win , Armstrong , tin young man arrested a few weeks ago , fo embezzlement. Armstrong had givoi bail to the amount of $400 for his appearance poarance , but ho failed to appear , so th bond will bo forfeited. Ho was in th employ of Richmond Bros. , but thi charge was on account of his old relation with a Missouri firm , inwhoso emplo ho was for some time before comiu hero , A gift sociable is being arranged for b the Y. M. 0 , A. , to take place nei Friday evening. The rooms of the a sc ciatiou need chairs , table , stands , pit tures , books , parlor ornaments , etc. , an each who attends the social is grante the privilege of bringing in some one c more of these articles , BO tliat the roon may be made moro attractive and con fortablo. The aesociadon is dcing noble , praclic&l work among young nioi aud Secretary Curtis certainly merits U support of the community iu his ellort increase its efficiency. The man Johnson who was arroUi Friday for sneaking a pin from Michac Bros , ' jewelry store has been released , ' prosecution appearing against him. It said that Mr. Michaels had oomo dolica About having his wife appear iu poli court as a witness against the follow , she being in poor health , but it seems as if thcro was proof enough against the fel low without her evidence. The stolen properly was found on him. Mr. Mich aels himself saw him in the store , and saw him run out. If thieves are to bo allowed to escape thus easily , the city will bo overrun with them. If Michaels Bros , have another and heavier robbery they should not complain or find fault with the police force if the follows are not caught. The girls of the sowing school and industrial society connected with the Congregational church entertained and were entertained at the church parlors Saturday afternoon. The programmo consisted of singing and recitations by the pupils who numbered about thirty. The entertainment was very creditable and at its close they were served with refreshments , candies , cake , lemonade , otc. All seemed to otijoy it muchly. A number of articles made by the girls were offered for sale from a little booth very prettily decorated. These articles consisted of swooping caps , aprons , hold ers , etc. , and they mot with ready sale. The ladies having this school in charge are doing a noble work , as they not only help these young girls but help them in sucli a way as to make them more inde pendent , better fitted for the duties c f life and more able to help themselves. At the Congregational church yester day morning , the pastor , Rev. Cyrus llawlin , preached an unusually strong and interesting sermon , in the course of which ho touched up the city council for its proposed evasion of law. It is well- known that the city council is contem plating the passing of ordinances to evade the prohibitory law , and to make a prac tically license system in this city , despite the law of the state to the contrary. The council , too , has boon trying to evade the state law in other matters , such as the paving of the street car track , otc. This attempt of oflicials to evade law caused the speaker to tell some very plain truths , and to comment sharply on the low tirade of moral life thus indicated. A community which will sit thus quietly by and permit these who are chosen to exe cute law , and who are sworn to obey law , needs some shaking up. As all know , Mr. Hawlin is honest and fearless in giving his opinions , and it would have caused the city oflicials to do a little thinking at least , if they had hoard him yesterday. PERSONAL. Decoration day was duly observed here yesterday , by the Milton Summers Post G. A. R This is the first observ ance of the day at this plnco since the 30th day of May bccamo n national holi day. The attendance was moderately fair and the vroathor fair. The old flag was raised nt half mast over the postoflico block , and people generally eooincd to appreciate the significance of the occa sion. The greater part of the business houses were closed from 10 a. m. until 2 p. m. in honor of the day. At half past ton o'clock the procession formed at the opera house and marched to the fair grounds where a very appro- propriato service was hold consisting of singing , prayer sad orations by each ot our ministers , reading the muster roll of the dead heroes from this vicinity , and short addresses by veterans who survived the mighty contest of ' 01 and ' 05. Miss Girty Batrd recited the poem , "Tho Blue nnd Gray" in a very happy nnd entertain ing manner which reflected great credit upon the young dcclaimor. After the services of the post was over at the fair grounds a special detail of the post re paired to the cemetery and there dis charged the sad but pleasant duty of strewing spring's rarest blossoms on the graves of our noble heroes who so willing ly gave their lives that wo might enjoy the blessings of a free and untrammelled people. Peace to their ashes and hon ored bo their names. Day before yesterday the railroad com missioners of this sUto , and the super intendents of the C. B. & Q. and Wabash - bash railroads mot here to confer with our citizens in regard to putting up a union depot at the crossing of the two roads , at this place. Our citizens , as a majority , are in favor of the depot being erected , and much was said pro and con on both sides of the question. But as to what the honorable gentlemen will do in the promises remains to bo soon in the dim distant futuro. Wo fonl like the old maid who was on the hunt of a husband when she exclaimedj"Anything , 0 Lord , will dot" Yes , anything will suit us so that it will brace up this dull monotony of the dullest season that ovnr struck our part of the world. The muchly independent farmer is busy in his broad acres and tilloth dili gently from morn till night , and hence our streets roininds ono cf Goldsmith's "Deserted Village. " But wo are perfect ly thankful that it is so , for in an abund ant harvest this fall wo see a now boom in all branches of business. Crops of nil kinds are in a highly pros perous condition and fruit bids fair to bean an abundant crop. I think I am safe in saying that nothing short of a cyclone era a hail storm will cause a failure in crops of all kinds in this part of the state this fall. fall.Tho The political pot has not got very hot here yet , but from the rumblings and mutterings that can bo heard from center to circumfpronco it bids fair to bo a rod' hot campaign this fall and all of our citizens zons have their eyes and ears turned Chicagoward and are anxiously awaiting with bated breath the mighty edict that shall go out from the great republican wigwam proclaiming the next president that is to bo. Yours , otc. CED. attention. The first regular mooting of the Coun cil Bluffs Labor Protective association will bo hold in St. Patrick's hall , Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock.
