Milwaukee & St Ptul was decidedly weak and heavily iiruaied for sale , under which it dronpcit from 1153 to 1 10J. There was consiilerahlo excitement for n time , aiid the break in this stock had an unfavorable influence on the balance of the Hat , which also declined sharply ; Denver & Kio Grande declined 4 per cent. , Alton & Terrellauto shares weio also very weak and declined 4 per cent , for the common and 8 for the preferred ; Illinois Central declined 2J per cent. . St. Paul & Omaha 1 per cent. , Nashville k Chattanooga and C. B & Q. , 3 per cent. The trunk lines were weaker in some cases , but , as a rule , did not share to any great extent in the depression. Towards noon a better feeling set in and there was a sharp recovery from the lowest point. During the afternoon , under purchases to lower short contracts , prices showed a decline of i to 4A per cent , the latter in Milwaukee & St. Paul. Trunk line shares declined - \ to Ig per cent , for the day , the latter in Lake Shore ; Chicago , Burlington & Quincy declined 5 per cent. , and the Hock Island 1J per cent.
