Obermeyer’s VIEW DN LETTERS Who’s Kidding Who Just who are Regent Wilson, NU President Smith, and the others involved in the new baseball stadium kidding? Yes, the money will not be gener ated through tuition or state funds. However, the donors who will sup port the stadium probably will not be willing to then support other pro grams on campus. Donations are tight! And trying to generate more than $10 million for this athletic program will make it all the harder for other programs to raise half as much. I’m NOT suggesting that the Athletic Department should not be allowed to raise funds. I AM suggest ing that the Board of Regents and President Smith should be knocking on any donor’s door before the Athletic Department does. Daryn Warner senior theater arts and international affairs Old Tyme Religion The negative news about the NU football program has become old and depressing. The other night, I went to see a YMCA flag football game at Wright Field park. It was like a breath of fresh air. The refs and coaches were there to volunteer their time, family and friends were there to cheer and the kids were there to have fun. There was no money exchanging hands, no distractions and the fans had the best seats in the house. It was football in its purest form. At the end of the game, it didn’t matter who won or who lost. The only thing that mattered to the adults was if the lads had fun. As the kids made a beeline to the pop cooler; the only thing that mat tered to them was that the adults were proud of them. Bryan Ottoson sophomore academic transfer Anti-Christ It has been said that anti Catholicism is the anti-Semitism of the libera! elite. I wonder if Mo Neal would have questioned the sincerity of a Jewish mayor who protested the degradation of a sacred Jewish sym bol? Rudolph Giuliani, as it happens, is a devout Catholic, and it is scur rilous, and indeed bigoted, not to take the sincerity of his religious beliefs at face value. Gerard Harbison chemistry professor Racism reaction Every single day it is mentioned, and every single year we read our share of it. I’m talking about racism, and as I opened Tuesday’s DN, I was hit by it again. Ren Townsend (DN Letters), the definition of racism and discrimination has nothing to do with the fact that you say hi to anti-social people. called being rude. Personally, I don’t go out and try to be rude to everyone, but it’s my right to be that way if I want to be. The solution to your problem may be as easy as getting over the hump of blaming everything that doesn’t go right in your day on the fact that I did n’t say “hi” back to you. Racism is a very serious accusa tion. And honestly, there is some merit for a lot of it. Aren’t you discriminating by assuming that we’re all racists? I’m just sick of being a racist, a discrimi nator and the enemy just because I’m pale-skinned. By the way, HELLO! Joe Scharfbillig junior advertising It I m walking to class, I m rarely listening to other people because I’m not expecting them to say anything to me.
