Bookstore officials say
students can buy early
to avoid crowds, lines
Long lines, high prices and
out-ol-stock materials can make
back-to-school book buying a
nightmare.
According to two Lincoln book
store employees, following a few
tips makes book buying a little
more pleasant.
"Students should shop early,
before classes start. That way
they avoid the long lines of the
first day," said Mark Oppegard,
Nebraska Bookstore manager.
"Buying used books is a good
idea, too. Students should also .
be sure to hold on to all the
receipts, so assuming the book
is brought back in the same
condition it was bought in, it
will be easy to gst a refund."
Doris Siems, a UNL Bookstore,
employee said buying early may
cause problems.
"One thing that we noticed,
especially in freshman classes,
is that people who buy early
often get the wrong books,"
1
Siem3 said. "Freshmen should
always go to class before coming
here. For everyone else, though,
they key is to shop early."
Both book stores, in anticipa
tion of the first week rush, make
changes to accommodate more
customers.
"We set up extra registers and
hire more people to help stock
shelves and assist customers,"
Siems said. "Our people are here
to help and make suggestions.
All you have to do is ask." "
Oppegard said sold-out books
are a fairly common problem.
But students can do several
things if an item they need isn't
available.
"The first thing you should do
is notify your instructor," he
said. "It's possible that they either
werent ordered, or because of
transfers there aren't enough to
go around. There's also a slight
chance of picking up a book
that someone has returned."
