' Bj'GAILIEJOCEEIONS The UNL Latin American Solidarity Committee said its members wHl picket at commencement ceremonies May 12 jrs front cf the Bob Dsvany Sports Center from 9 a.m. to 10;30 a.m., LASCO member Ann Aidrich rriJ. According to Aidrich, LASCO b an organization of universities across the nation. It la sfilli&ted with the US, Committee in Solidarity with the ftopte cf El Salvador, which has asked universities to help in their campaign against U.S. intervention in Latin America. Aidrich said 15 student LASCO members will hand out leaflets to passing students and members of the community. These leaflets are intended to' inform the public cfvitsl statistics and background information on LASCO's cause against U.S. inter vention, she said. The Saturday picketing will be intended as a move to educate both students and t he community of the events occurring in Latin and Central America. According to Graduation Committee head, Pro fessor Pat Berger, news of the picketing had not reached the committee. They (the committee) will discuss the contingent situation in their nest meeting " he said. According to Richard Armstrong, vice-chancellor for Student Affairs, there has been no demonstra tion or picketing at graduation since 1977. He said the administration also was unaware of LASCO's intent to picket at graduation. "We will have to assess this situation," he said, before a decision ia made on how to handle the situation. "Their idea seems innocent enough for what their purpose appears to be," Armstrong said. Anything more than a simple demonstration would be uncharacteristic of our students, he said. Their wars are internal," Aidrich said, speaking of the Latin American countries. It's not for our coun try to decide their issues for them. "It's their decision for the kind of government they want or the economy they want," she said. - More than 500 American companies have busi ness tlm down in Central and South America, Aidrich said. These also are companies many UNL students could be employed by, she said. According to LASCO member Jeffrey Adams, the cheap labor Latin Americans provide msy benefit ithese companies, but at the same time "it hurts unemployment here in the U.S." A .Aidrich said men must register for the draft before they can receive financial aid for school. This 'obligates them to' military service or work for the government if anything should develop, especially in Latin America. - According to Adams, Timing is important because wars in Central America are escalating."- CAuAHTpA O 7 XAXl'-L' UAo a 1 X Li UAAXs IF rf-JI Get through finab and tho all-nighters with a bucketful of your favorito popkorn, chsesskorn, karmelfcorn or cvsn thb week's special, bacon 'n chkldarl Treat yourself cnd, yoilr;fdcncls'too,'they'ra only S2.E3 In tho CENTRUM 47B-ES31 ' H X-a jr x -J.
