I'ontizy, Way 7, 1C34 Blum, Trumble named 1984 D-ily rlcbrcskan student leaders I When Eteve Blum and Mary Trumble came to UNL S3 freshmen they didn't plan on getting ac tively involved in campus affairs. But they did and Fri day they were named win ners of the 1G3 1 Scribner Hunter Student Leader ship Award. Dean of Students David DeCoster said the award is given annually to the two male and female stu dents on campus who have displayed the most lead ership in their years at UNL The winners must also be juniors. DeCoster said the award i3 voted on by both stu dents and UNL educators. He said about two dozen participate in the voting. Blum and Trumble were pleased by the award. "I was very excited," Blum, a member of Lamb da Chi fraternity, said. "It's a great honor because it's voted on by both your peers and by adults." "I was really surprised to get it," Trumble said. "I feel very honored." Both Blum and Trum ble said they started their activities with involvement in only a couple of groups. "I just got in a couple of activities and really liked it," Blum said. "From there I just got into other acti vities." "Once you get involved in one thing you kind of get pulled into others," Trumble said. Trumble, a member of Alnha Chi Omega soror ity, said her involvement in campus activities has enabled her to put skills she learned in the class room to a practical use. "Things like communi cation skills, organ izational skills, those things are something you can read about but you have to be able to apply them to real situations." , Trumble's honors in clude University Program Council-East Visual Arts Chairperson, New Student Orientation Host, and a , Regents Scholarship.
