Thursday, April 25, 1984 Daily Nebraskan Page 3 Homecoming makes switch to seniors olice Next year's homecoming royalty will be limited to UNL seniors, according to a recent homecoming committee decision.. In the post only UNL juniors were eligible to be homecoming royalty. Carol Uotch, committee chairperson, said the switch from juniors to seniors is an effort to give applicants more time to develop their backgrounds in academics and campus activities. The change may be a disadvantage to sopho mores, Gotch said, because some who may have been looking forward to trying out for royalty, next year will have to wait another year. "We haven't set the qualifications for next year's homecoming king and queen" Gotch said, "but whoever is the most qualified will be selected." For the 1984 homecoming, Gotch said, the com mittee wants to think of new things to try. It wants to think of different events, she said, and use the more successful events from previous years. Applications for next year's royalty will be availa ble sometime at the beginning of the fall 1984 semester. The homecoming committee consists of people from many types of campus organizations. The academic image of the university also helps in attracting merit scholars, Papik said. The determination of Merit Scholars is based on scores from the Scholastic Aptitude Test. A student must rank in the upper half of the first percentile of graduating high school seniors, Papik said.
