Friday, April 20,1034 Daily Nebraskan Pago 5 USA .?2a Letters Sexism should stop Sexist advertising nonsense? I feel nothing but pity for the female who wrote to the Daily Nefaras kan (April 1 7). It is really discouraging to read such a letter as that from another woman. It's sad that she obviously has been conditioned by the systems of patriarchy and capitalism in this country and has accepted them without question. It is very true that "sexist attitudes have been going on for thousands of years." So I guess we're just supposed to sit back and accept that, right? Compare her attitude to that of slave owners in the pt. d&vczy had beca going on for hundreds of years, so why was it stopped? Because we alf real ized that it had to stop. Women being shown in magazines like Playboy has to stop also. Why can't people see the connection? It's all the victimization of a particular group by the dominating one. I can look through Playboy cover-to-cover and never see a true portrayal of what a woman is. Wake up! We're all demeaned by these sexist images. We have to raise public consciousness about how women are being defined by pornographic magazines. Chris Prickett junior sociology Allen should have acted This letter is in reference to Bill Allen's column (Daily Nebraskan, April 16). Allen relates a poignant story about the lack of parental responsibility he witnessed at work one summer. He brings his story to a dramatic close as he relates his indecisiveness over which person he would rather be: the baby left alone in the back seat of a car or the shirtless father behind the wheel. We appreciate Allen's candidness in relating his personal emotions. However, individual social respon sibility was neglected. Leaving a child in a car unattended in itself is a form of child abuse. The unattended children plus the hot weather was a blatant form of abuse which neither the parents or the bystanders should have ignored. Allen could have taken a variety of actions to solve the problem. He could have offered to bring the children into the airconditioning or given them water. Also, he could have reported the parents. Allen could have turned a negative experience into a positive experience.
