Many of the students have shown a great deal of interest in this old and honorable game. If those who love the game would make their interest known to Jerry Howell, and one of you will act as coordinator, I will provide the tournament boards and scoring system in use by the American Cribbage Congress. Jack Wunderlich American Cribbage Congress Tournament Director for Nebraska Editorial 'disgusting' The chutzpah in your editorial against tax funds going to Commonwealth depositors (Daily Nebras kan, March 5) left me breathless. There are thou sands of working class people from the Wyoming line to the Mormon Bridge who regard any tax money for your university in general and your newspaper in specific to be a swindle and an offen sive waste of their taxes. I have taken spiritual and intellectual nourish ment from your newspaper for a generation now. Editors come and go. And yet one theme has remained constant: an enthusiasm to fasten on the public for any passing scheme or fancy to fatten the bones around the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Three groups could profit from a tour of real Nebraska I urge your stan, tne AAur union winn ers, and the local country club set that wants mil lions for an arts center to confer with the 80-year- Abortion dilemma... old former middle class Lincoln resident now on food stamps as a result of the Commonwealth crime and the state's malfeasance. This is a poor state, bi't it isn't so poor as to be without some shred of honor. Your editorial was disgusting. I will remember it fondly when next you blubber about funds for hog barns and the English professors. Hal Gildersleeve associate professor UNL Libraries Fresh opinions needed There is an ever increasing wave of conseryati vism in our country at the present time. The policies of the Reagan administration display a conserva tive, apathetic ideology towards the poor, disadvan taged, and minority. t In my perception, conservative elements in our society would have us heading back to the "Dark Ages" of societal development and government pol icy. It is my belief that to be a 100 percent conserva tive means monotony, boredom, and stuffiness. On the university campus as well as throughout our fair nation, there is a need for a diversity of opinion to counterbalance the Reagan ideologies. My call is to the disadvantaged, oppressed, and diversified, to stand up andspeak out for your cause. Do not be afraid of the conservative element, for that is exactly what they wish. Freedom of speech and expression are something we must exercise, or else lose these fundamentals. Rodney Allen Bell II junior political science FLIHE TOP TO AZATLAH, HEtltCO BonirG GPnir:G cnuAit. In any such revision, we still have to confront this central moral ambival ence about abortion. Compromise is not a cop-out; neither is ambivalence a weakness. It is appropriate. We are twice as likely to accept abor tion if the woman has been raped or carries a deformed fetus than if, as a married woman, her contraceptive has failed. The age of the fetus is another piece ofthat "situation." As Frances Kissling, the head of Catholics for a Free Choice, says: "We are always weighing values. As the fetus develops we need more compelling reasons to justify abort- mit the pain, all the pain, in order to balance it. 1S34, The Boston Globe Newspaper Com panyWashington Post Writers Group Letters Policy noiivNehraskan welcomes brief letters to the editor from all readers and interested others.
