The Series: Oklahoma leads 72-69. The Sooners defeated Nebraska 78-67 Feb. 8 as Wayman Tisdale scored 25 of his 33 points in the second half. The Game: Nebraska risks its three game winning streak against the sixth ranked Sooners. A victory would as sure a third-place finish for the Hus kers and a Wednesday night home game in the Big Eight tournament. Wayman, Billy and the Boys keep rol ling along, winning games and making enemies. The Sooners have won eight consecutive games since losing to Mem phis State, and they have clinched the conference's regular-season title with a 12-1 record. Oklahoma, however, has been involv ed in incidents with league fans. After trading insults with Colorado fans in January, the Sooners were involved in another altercation following their over time victory at Kansas. Forward Cal vin Pierce broke a hand in the melee as the Sooners cut down the nets at Allen Fieldhouse to celebrate the victory. The Sooners play at home against Nevada-Las Vegas in a televised game Saturday afternoon. Huskers Stan Cloudy and David Ponce believe Neb raska can catch Oklahoma off guard. "We catch them at a good time," Cloudy said. "We must go out and play hard for 40 minutes." "They're looking past us to down the road," Ponce said. "We have a chance to beat them if we play with poise." Oklahoma struggled in a 61-60 vic tory at Missouri Tuesday night. Tisdale was held to 13 points on 4 of 1 1 shoot ing, and Tim McCalister was held to 10. Forward Darryl Kennedy, Pierce's replacement, paced the Sooners with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Nebraska's 63-56 victory against Kan sas State marked the first time this season all five starters scored in dou ble figures. Dave Hoppen finished with 11 points, which placed the Husker center fifth on the school's single season scoring chart and 13th on the career scoring chart. Ronnie Smith's 10 points against KSU were a career high. He has made nine of 11 shots and grabbed eight rebounds in the last three games. The Huskers haVe shot 65.5 percent from the field in that span, led by Smith, Cloudy (72 percent) and Hop pen (68 percent). The lower C and D class games start today and the champions are determined Saturday. Next week end the larger schools compete. ' Bill Allen Basically, what this means is that UNL students have to put up with the high school invasion twice this year. This past week, letters have arrived at an astound ing rate asking me for advice. It seems several of you are worried about the impending migration of rug rats to Lincoln. A couple of samples: Dear Bill, I read your column all the time. You are the greatest. I have a riddle for you: Why does Mrs. Osborne put Tom's cereal on a plate? Answer: Because if she put it in a bowl he would lose it. (I know, I've heard it, too. B A) Is it true that the state basketball tournament is twice as long this year? If so, cancel my subscription to Life, or please tell me how to survive it. Sincerely, Otis Spit, senior, business, and chair man of campus Harlequin Romance Club. Another letter went: Dear Bill, I read your column all the time. You are the greatest. Let's party sometime. I saw you on campus the other day and am glad to see you are as handsome in real life as in your little picture in the paper. (I think that was a compliment BA) Anyway, gorgeous, I live in the dorms and I'm really worried about all those drunk high school boys being around this weekend. Could I please come over and spend the weekend with you? I do laundry and I'm not in a sorority. I'm afraid to be alone at a time like this. Love, Bunny Drools, freshman, declared, 36-24-32 I had to answer that one: Dear Miss Drools, Who cares whether or not you do laundry? If that's what I looked for in a woman I would hire a maid. Just bring your measurements, I mean, yourself, on over and well chase those bad high school boys away. 4 PJS. Bring a case of Old Milwaukee. Those are just a couple of the many letters that mentioned state basketball. So, for those of you that have been worrying, I offer the following comments and advice, so yea can survive the tournament. 1. Go home. This is the safest advice. Lock your door and windows and leave. If you live in Lincoln and have a bomb shelter, use it. If not, lay in a supply of food and home videos and don't venture from your residential setting. cn it 2 22
