He gave story of the two entrepreneurs who me lour pieces of Beatle bedsheets. were selling the Beatles' bedsheets. "Richy " I said to him, "after I write Victor and Einhorn thought they were about this, and people start wanting to going to become rich. They figured out contact you so they can get pieces of that they could cut 164.000 little the Beatles' bedsheets. what should I squares out of the sheets and pillow cases they had purchased. They could almost feel the $104,000 in their pockets. Then two things happened. tell them?'' "No one's going to call you," Victor said. "You know how many calls you'll get? Zilch. There has been publicity about this The first was that no one bought the over the years. Nobody ever wants the pieces of the Beatles' sheets. "Don't ask me why," Victor said. "I've never understood it. I think it was because people thought we were pho neys. There was so much Beatle junk being sold those days the drugstores were full of it. " The second thing that happened to Victor and Einhorn was that they re ceived a letter from a New York attor ney named Walter Hofer. Hofer's letter said: "Gentlemen: Please be advised that this office represents the interests of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, John Lennon individually and collectively known as the Beatles. "It has come to our clients' attention that you are advertising and offering for sale certain linens allegedly used by the Beatles; and in connection there with using the name of our clients. We are advised that you have not received authority or permission from the Bea tles in connection with same. "Your activities in this connection are causing great damage to our clients, and unless you immediately cease and desist this improper and unauthorized activity, we shall have no alternative but to proceed in accordance with our clients' instructions." So on the one hand Victor and Ein horn had 1 64,000 pieces of Beatle bed sheets that no one believed were real, and no one wanted to buy, and on the other hand they had the Beatles' attor ney threatening to sue them. "I think we sold between 700 and 800 of the pieces of sheets," Victor said. "We lost money. We didn't even get back what we paid for the sheets." sheets. Walter Cronkite mentioned the sheets when they first came out. The only response we got was from Walter Cronkite himself. He said he wanted a piece of the sheets for his kid," I asked Victor how many pieces of Beatles' sheets he had left. "Bags and bags of them," he said. "I keep them in shopping bags. They're going to be with me for the rest of my life." 1S34, Tribune Company Syndicate, Inc. ty ri Daily ti tDlTOR GENERAL MANAGER PRODUCTION MANAGER ADVERTISING MANAGER ASSISTANT ADVERTISING MANAGER CIRCULATION MANAGER NEWS EDITOR ASSOCIATE NEWS EDITORS Larry Sparka, 472-1766 Daniel Shillll Kitty Pollcky Tracy L. USA Letters Krishna needs salvation Krishna Madan makes it perfectly clear in his articles that he feels Christianity is foolishness. I could laugh and say "Go ahead Krishna, laugh, poke your fun now, but come judgment day, you will get yours." Instead, I grieve for you, Krishna, and others like you. Matthew 25:41 tells us that at the judgment throne God will say to those who don't believe, "Depart from me accursed ones, into the eternal fires which has been prepared for the devil and his angels." . At this point, you are destined for hell, and yes, it is eternal agony. Ephesians 4:18 says that those people do not believe they "have been darkened in their under standing, excluded from the life of God because of ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their hearts." I pray for you that God may soften your heart and that you will come to understand your need for salvation. , Man thinks he has the answers, or feels there is an alternative, but God says there is only one way to heaven and that is through the death of his son.
