In addition, NFL stars like Cris Collinsworth, Billy
Sims, and possibly Lawrence Taylor are going to
jump leagues.
Pete hr-s lost two consecutive Heisman Trophy
winners. He's losing some of the top stars in the NFL.
And he's losing fans. It's clear that the NFL, like the
old gray mare, ain't what she used to be.
Cut if there h one man who can lead the NFL out
of its current woes, it's Pete Rozelle. He's been com
missioner since 1CG0. In those 23 years, he's plugged,
prodded and pushed the NFL to dizzying heights. He
waged war with the AFL and came out a winner. He
invented the Super Bowl. He is credited with devel
oping the enormous television package the NFL has.
He is credited with the NFL replacing baseball as our
national pasttime.
He's done it before.
He's got to do it again. Good luck, Pete.

Duncan said he'is happy now that he
decided to come to Nebraska One
adjustment Duncan said he wasn't
quite ready for i3 the weather.
"I thought it would be close to the
weather in Idaho " Duncan said. "I
didn't expect it to be quite this bad."
The Lament, Calif., native said the
Huskers have an excellent chance at
winning the Big Eight championship.
Another lofty goal that Duncan said
he'd like to see the Huskers achieve is a
trip to Omaha in early June for the
College World Series.
The Cornhuskers will be playing a
non-conference schedule that has been
rated the most difficult in the country
by a top collegiate baseball publica
tion. Duncan said he feels the sche-.
dule, which includes games with South
ern Cal , Cal State-Fullerton, Pepper
dine and Hawaii, should be beneficial
to the Huskers.
"It's hard to say how well do on the
trip but it will definitely get us ready
for the Big Eight," Duncan said.
Whether or not Duncan will be at
Nebraska for his senior season is the
great mystery right now. Duncan was a
third-round selection of the Cincinnati
Reds in the last baseball draft.
"If I have a good year and get a good
offer I should sign," Duncan said.
But right now, Duncan's main
thoughts are helping the Huskers as
their first baseman. Duncan has set
some goals for himself in his first sea
son at Nebraska.
"I'd like to hit above .350," Duncan
said.
Duncan was named one of the team's
tri-captains along with Jeff Anderson
and Kurt Eubanks. He said being nam
ed a captain was a surprise to him.
"I'm happy about it," Duncan said.
"It's an acknowledgement from the
players on the team."
With the Olympics hanging in the
balance of how he performs this sea
son, will Duncan think about the other
first base candidates?
"I'm not even going to think about it,"
Duncan said.
" At first I was surprised to be includ
ed among the players at the trials,"
Duncan said. "There were 13 or 14 first .
basemen. It didn't surprise me after v
we'd finished. I had thought I'd be one
of the first two or three at the end of
the trials."
