Accounting honorary is hatehed By Becky Lrugssn - After two years of preparation, Beta Alpha Pd ac counting honorary has become a reality at UNL, said Richard Met calf, chapter adviser and professor of accounting. The honorary was chartered Feb. 28. Complying with national rules, a Beta Alpha Td chapter cannot be formed at a campus until an accounting club has been on the cam pus for at least two years. The current UNL Abcounting dub was formed in 1968. The Accounting Club will not be abolished now that the honorary has formed, Met calf said. Everyone in Beta Alpha Psi is an Accounting Club member, but because of the honorars requirement, not all Accounting Qub members are Beta Alpha Psi members, he said. Membership requirements in the honorary include a Grady quits campaign "There's no way in heaven or hell that I'd make it, so I'm not going to run," said Fred Grady, a UNL political science major from Broken Bow. He filed for state senator in the 43rd legislative district March 1, but closed his campaign Wednesday after four other persons filed for the office. "I ran under the assumption no one else was running,' he said, "but now the field is really crowded." Grady said three candidates, including incumbent Otho Kime of Valentine, already have filed and said a good friend of his, Broken Bow businessman, plans to file later this week. She added that it is surprising how little studrnts know about sexuality and birth control. According to Southeast Community College instructor Nancy Font of Lincoln, who talked on self-help medicine for women and other women's health issues at the Feb. 3, WomenSpeak 76, projects of this type are needed evcry . where. . She said that some women who viit doctors for health care often are treated rudely by doctors who believe the problem is psychological. She added that most doctors are overworked and some times they must make quick decisions. . - . "Women need to regain an interest and control of their body," she said. "We should be able to take care of our selves and each other rather than hand over (women's health care) to someone who isn't concerned. cumulative grade point average of 25 with a 3.0 in ac counting, and students also must be in the upper 35 per cent of their business class. Beta Alpha Psi was formed at UNL by Metcalf to pro vide an organization for accounting majors that has a na tional backing, he said. The chapter provides a way of honoring accounting students, other than in the class room. Students also practice their profession before gradua tion by planning programs for at least half of the chapter's required 12 annual meetings, Metcalf said, although in vited speakers may present the other half. Field trips and the tutoring of other UNL students are among the honorary's activities, Metcalf said. The UNL chapter is the country's 103rd Beta Alpha Psi chapter, he said. 'J?
