Wirtz said the center would be open now, but his staff has run into pro blems with the first location choice. But a second site has been' agreed upon, and the Student Activities office is waiting for the approval of a committee of United Ministries of Higher Education (U.M.H.E.) officials. The U.M.H.E. sue is located at ,14th and R streets. Concerning the operation of the day care center, Wirtz said that money from ASUN will pay for certain minimal equip ment necessary at the center. The day care center will pro bably be staffed by students on the work-study financial aid program. "I'm optimistic about the chances of opening the day care center soon," Wirtz said. The opening announcement will be in The Nebraskan. Another program Student Activities feels strongly about is starting a student credit union. Phil Layne of Counsell ing Services has done con siderable work on the proposed credit union. Layne said that when the University establishes the stu dent credit union, it will be one of the few universities in the nation offering such a service. "The credit union will cut a lot of the red tape that students now have to go through to i is - - V V t t:.v.;.-..-i? i V ; i 4 Wirtz: "credit union will cut a lot of the red tape.' receive small loans," Layne said. Layne also said that he hopes to receive federal sponsorship of his program and University faculty endorsement. Wirtz also said that Student Activities will soon open a recreational equipment department where students will be able to rent many kinds of recreation supplies. Other programs being con sidered by the Student Activities office are offering a short course on library usage, sponsoring an all-university leadership workshop and im proving American and foreign student interaction. "Every person in our office is paid by student money, and we feel accountable to students for their investments," Wirtz said. STOP FOR A BIG-RED RELAXERH Tw drinks tar tht prlc !
