Husker sports wound up a
whopping $71,000 in the hole
for the 1961-62 school year.
Reasons for the poor Ne

low revenue from football
road games, a losing team,
bad weather and increased
scholarships.
Despite the poor financial
show Athletic Director Tippy
Dye anticipates increased ex

Tippy listed several reasons
for his optimism on the fi
nancial picture. A stronger
money football schedule with
road games at Michigan,
Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colo
rado will improve the out
look. Improvement Ahead
In addition, an improve
ment in the road double of
the Iowa State-Kansas State
games. These two away
games have been a sore spot
in the football income. Iowa
State will play twice in Lin
coln to off-set the two poor
money makers.
Dye also anticipates a siz-

by the faithful fans and a re
duction in expenses of staff
members.
The Husker financial pic
ture would have been even
more bleak without the aid of
fans pumping funds to the
school through the Husker
Award, the Touchdown Club
and the Extra Point Club.
Contributions from these or
ganizations amounted to near
ly $91,000.
