Says He Won't Try To Lure Nebraskans By Hal Brown Nebraska Athletic Director Bill Orwig said Thursday he has no intention of trying to lure either athletes or coaches from the University. "I am sorry to be leaving Nebraska and I certainly don't want to do anything to hurt the University or its athletic program," Orwig said. "I have no intention of trying to get any of the coacnes or annexes now ai tne university to come to Indiana." Orwig announced his resig nation as Nebraska's athletic director Monday after accept ing a similar post at Indiana. Orwig will remain at Nebras ka until April 1 when he will assume his new duties. He said his first task at In diana will be trying to per suade the NCAA to reduce or remove the four-year ban placed on the Hoosier school a year ago for recruiting viola tions. "I already , have begun to work on the problem and we have some irons in the fire now," he said. "The first move is up to the people of Indiana to show their good m tentions." Indiana is building a mod ern athletic plant with most of the construction completed. The Bloomington, Ind., school has a new stadium seating Rrt fW) qiui a now t lAllhvuca They are due to begin con struction soon on a new sports arena for basketball and other winter sports, according to Orwig. The arena will include facilities for an ice floor al though Indiana does not have a hockey team. Three names entered the picture Tuesday as specula tion began on a probable suc cessor to Orwig. Persons mentioned were L. F. "Pop" Klein, A. J. Lewandowski and Bill Jennings. Klein is currently asistant to the athletic director and handles concessions at athlet ic contests. Lewandowski is business manager of athletics and was athletic director when Orwig was named to the post in 1954. The Wildcats scored a 16-lf triumph over, Nebraska ear lier in the season. The Hus kers won two meets the pasl weekend to bring the season record to three wins, two losses, and one tie. Kansas State is unbeaten in eight dual meets this season and scored a 25-2 triumnri over Missouri in the Wildcats last outing. Two Husker eramrters still have undefeated records.
