In KU-IS Contest The winner of the Iowa State-Kansas game at Amps. la., Saturday will take over sole possession of first place in tne nig Eight standings. Iowa State, Kansas Colo rado and Missouri are tied for the league lead with 1-0 records. Colorado and Mis souri are facing non-conference opponents with the Buffs hosting Arizona and Missouri meeting the Air Force Acad emy at Colorado Springs, Colo. . Iowa State scored its con ference win with a 10-7 tri umph over .Nebraska and Kansas blanked Kansas State, 41-0, for its Big Eight win. Kansas has a 2-1 season rec ord while Iowa State is un beaten with a 3-0 mark. The Jayhawks dropped their first game Saturday as Syracuse scored a 14-7 come-from-be-hind victory. Kansas toppled Texas Christian, 21-7, in the season opener. The Cyclones, led by the brilliant running and passing of tailback Dave Hoppmann, rolled to easy victories over Drake, 46-0, and Detroit, 44 21, before being pushed by Nebraska Saturday. i Hoppmann leads the Big Eight in three offensive de partments. He is the leading ball carrier with 431 yards on 64 carries for' a 6.7 yard aver age. . Leading Passer The Cyclone sophomore is also the leading passer with eight completion of 17 at tempts for 120 yards and he is tied in the scoring race with Bert Coan of Kansas at 24 points. ' Coan, a transfer from Texas Christian, ranks fourth in total yardage among the confer ence ball carriers with 178 yards on 23 carries for an average of 7.7 yards per carry. In other conference action, Nebraska will be looking for its first conference win when the Huskers meet'' Kansas State at Lincoln. The Wild cats are 0-2 in conference State will take on Tulsa and Oklahoma will meet Texas in no n-conference struggles. Oklahoma State and Nebraska are tied for fifth place in the Big Eight with 0-1 records. Tuesday's Daily Nebraskan quoted wrestling coach Mickey Sparano' as saying that wrestling scholarships would be awarded on a per formance basis. He tabbed Min- Eliminations Set For NU Kegler Team First round of the roll-off for the Big Eight bowling team will be held Saturday at 7 a.m. in the Student Union. Twelve games will be rolled Saturday to determine the top eighteen bowlers. These eighteen will bowl again the following Saturday. The top twelve bowlers from this round will form the Nebraska varsity and pacer teams. Any undergraduate carry ing and passing at least 12 hours is eligible,. The entry fee is $3.00 and must be paid at the games desk in the Union by 10 p.m. Thursday.
