Nbraska got two good
pitching performances from
Harry Tolly and Jan Wall in
winning two of three games
from Kansas Friday and Sat
urday. The Huskers broke an elev
en game losing streak behind
the five-hit pitching of Tolly
in the second game of Fri
day's donbleheader winning
by a 4-1 count. Wall gave up
only five hits in 8 2-3 innings
as the Huskers made it two
in a row with an 11-1 win
Saturday.
After dropping the twinbill
opener to the Jayhaws 10-8
in nine innings, two more
than the scheduled seven, Ne
braska coach Tony Sharpe
revamped his lineup for the
second game. Sharpe
benched several of his regu
lars for what he called,
"lackadaisical play."
Tolly was in trouble in ev
ery inning except the fourth

Netlers Fall Twice
The N.U. tennis team drop
ped their second decision of
the week when Iowa State
won a Saturday morning
match 5-2.
This defeat plus the 7-0 loss
to Kansas State earlier in the
week at Manhattan left the
netters with a 7 wins, 9 losses
record. Coach Ed Higginboth

in the Big Eight Conferance

Nebraska opened the scor
ing in the first inning when
Jerry Harris singled, moved
to third on a single by Phil
Barth and romped home on
a one-base blow by Dick
Becher.
After Kansas knotted the
count at one-all In the fourth,
the Huskers came battling
back with a three-run fifth
inning. Doug Siier opened
the fifth with a triple, and
scored on a single by Jerry
Harris who moved to third
when Bob Semin singled.
Harris scored on a sacri
fice fly by Becher and Semin
came home on Elmer Taken
ishis's base blow.
Sharpe juggled the lineup
again for Saturday's single
game and the Huskers came
through w i t h a resounding
11-1 triumph to move one
half game ahead of the Jay
hawks in the loop standings.
Nebraska has a 5-9 confer
ence record for sixth place
while Kansas is in seventh
place with a 5-10 record.
Shutout Spoiled
Wall shut out the Jayhawks
until two were out in the
ninth when John Tonge dou
bled off the tall righthander
sending Ken Hensley home
with the only Kansas run of
the game.
Tolly came in after Tonge
doubled and retired Jim Tal
ly on a fly ball to center
field to end the game. It was
Tolly's final home appear
ance as a Nebraska ath
lete. Nebraska scored two runs
in the -third on only one hit
and added another one in the
fourth on a double steal with
Don Purcell racing home.
Ely Churchich's solo homer
in the sixth frame made the
Bob Prokop

For IM Title
Bob "Porky" Prokop is the
first nomination for the In
tramural Athlete of the year
Award.
This award is given by the
Daily Nebraskan to the out
standing IM athlete of the
year. The winner will be an
nounced in the May 20 edition
of the Daily Nebraskan.
"Porky's" sport is basket
ball. His 6-7 frame has been
on the All University squad
for the past 5 years and the
A.A.U. All Stars for the past
2 years.
This year Bob lead the Kap
pa Sigs to the All University
Team Trophy.
Basketball is not the only
sport Bob participates in, he
also trys his skill in football,
Softball, volleyball, badmitton
and horse shoes;
Prokop, a graduate s t u
dent majoring in chemistry,
is a member of Phi Lamda
Upsilon.

series, the two teams were

top half of the eighth but the
Huskers came back to knot
the score on Siler's two-run
single with two out.
