Only two games " separate
the first five teams in the
Big Eight baseball standings
as the teams enter the fifth
week of action this weekend.
Iowa State and Oklahoma
were the only two teams that
saw action last weekend as
all other games were rained
out. The Cyclones and Soon
ers uplit a doubleheader with
Oklahoma winning 9-7 and
Iowa State scoring a 4-3 tri
umph. The Sooners dropped a
notch in the standings as a
result of the twinbill split,
with Missouri taking over the
third spot.
Oklahoma State is in first
place by percentage points
over Iowa State with the
Tigers in third and Oklahoma
in fourth. The Tigers and
Sooners are only one game
behind the leading Cowboys.

Awarded
Holiday
The Nebraska football
team was awarded a day off
yesterday from the rigorous
spring practice. The decision
to call the regularly sched
uled session off came when
Coach Bill Jennings decided
that the weather was too bad
plus the beaten condition of
the players to hold a decent
drill.
The Husker mentor
switched halfback Dallas
Dyer to quarterback in the
only change of the day.
The entire squad will work
out Wednesday and Thursday
afternoons, weather permit
ting, and then will take a day
off Friday before the Satur
day afternoon 'tilt with the
Alumni.

TWk week's Star of the

versatile athletes in spring
sports.
Al Arrisunaea. number one
netter for Nebraska's tennis
team gets the award for his
twn rrunial wins over Omaha
University's Russ Schlotzhau-
er in recent meets.
Arriffunasa. who hails from
Merida, Yucatan, in Mexico,
is active in many sports. Be
sides his accompiisnmems on
the tennis court. Albert par
ticipated in baseball, soccer,
and football while m nign
school in Merida. He was the
baseball team's best hitter
and an All-Stater in soccer.
In tennis Albert took third
in the State Singles Tourney
and was third again two
years ago. Albert, whose ten
nis career began at the early
age of nine, more recently,
has lettered once in tennis
at Nebraska and was the
top winner with a 15-2 won-
lost singles mark-last year.
Moves To First
This year Albert, moving
from third to first on the
team, has won nine and lost
five. Last Thursday he
downed Omaha's Schlotzhau-
er, a real tough netman, for
the second time this year.
The win got the,; Husker
netters started on their third
straight victory and boosted

Albert is 21 years old, a
first semester senior in Busi
ness Administration and ac
tive in N Club and Cosmo
politan Club.
Al tabs his top thrills as
defeating Schlotzhauer twice
this year and watching Ne
braska upset Oklahoma last
fall. He is an ardent' football
fan.
The 5' 11", 170 pound net
ter chose Neil Rousch of
Wichita as the toughest op
ponent he has faced this year.
Rousch beat Arrigunaga in
both meetings of the two this
year.
Al combines a good serve
with a powerful net game
and some hustling defensive
backcourt shots to give Coach
Ed Higglnbotham's net team
a real talented top man.
Interested In All Sports
His versatility and inter
ests in all sports is well
shown in the jrnany Intramu
ral activities in which Al
participates. Besides playing
for Avery's football, volley
ball and baseball teams, Al
has won Intramural All-University
Singles titles in ten
nis, table tennis and paddle
ball.
Another of Al's feats while
attending Nebraska is the
creation of the Nebraska soc
cer team, which he has been
a member of for four years.
Big Eight did well by cop
ping three of the top five
places.
The winner, Denver U.,
represented the East in a
meet against the west win
ner, Utah University, for the
national championship this
week. The winner, Utah, is
now the new ICBC champ.
Each state determines their
team by a regional or state
meet. This is the first year
for the Nebraska entry and
only two other schools par
ticipated in the state tourney.
Merle Reiling, director of
Union games and bowling
team coach, was named
chairman of the Intermoun
tian Bowling Congress for the
year 1960-61 effective July 1.
