PAGE 6 SUMMER NEBRASKAN JUNE 12, 1958 Mythical Government Draws Highschoolers To Campus Creation of a mythical state will draw 300 high school girls to the campus this month to study state and coun ty government at the 17th an nual session of Girls State. Former Girl Staters among University students may at tend the Reunion Banquet on June 19th. Eleanor Kessler, a University freshman and former Girl Stater may be co tacted for tickets. The mythical state, based on the operations of the state of Nebraska, will hold elec tions during the week the girls are here. Heated battles for the governorship and other of fices are predicted, judging from past sessions. After the elections, officers chosen from the girls will par ticipate in a mock inaugura tion at the State Capitol. Gov. Victor Anderson will give the inauguration address. Robert Simmons, chief jus tice of the Supeme Court of Nebraska is to speak on open ing night, June 15. Lawyers, experts in govern ment and educators will lec ture to the girls, said Mrs. Mary McVicker, department secretary for the American Legion Awilbrv, the group sponsoring Girls State. of the State Legislature; Rev. Publishing Practice Given The second annual publica tions workshop for high school advisers has been extended an extra day this year. It will be held Tuesday through Friday. According to James Morri son, workshop adviser, the workshop will consist of more laboratory experience this year. The participants will be asked to write, edit and pub lish a small mimeographed publication at the end of in struction. A half day's instruction will be given each to reporting, news writing, copywriting and editing, and letterpress, offset and mimeograph. A full day's instruction will be devoted to both photography and the high school yearbook. Dr. William E. Hall, direc tor of the School of Journal ism, will begin the workshop Tuesday with lectures on the fundamentals of reporting. In the afternoon, Neale Copple of i banquet. The Lincoln Journal will lec ture on news writing. Wednesday morning, Dr. Robert Cranford, associate professor of journalism will give instruction on copywrit ing and editing. Morrison, Kenneth Peitsch and Robert Pickel will lecture and instruct on the letterpress, offset and mimeograph. Ray Morgan, photography instructor, will give funda mentals of camera operation on Thursday. The subject for Friday will be the high school yearbook. Instructors will be Miss Hat tie Steinberg and Morrison. A workshop picnic will be held on Tuesday at Pioneers Park and on Friday a work shop banquet will be held in the Student Union. Registration fee for the 1958 workshop is $9.50. This covers the cost of all instructional and laboratory materials as well as the picnic and the Union To Show Foreign Films Four international film classics will make up the Summer Film Society's pro gram at the university. Held in connection with the Summer Sessions World Af fairs Preview series, the films will provide students with an opportunity to become famil iar with other countries and peoples. Included on the program for the first Film Society Showing (Thursday, June 26) will be the Japanese films: "Along Japan s High Road ; "Japan"; "Suzuki Family"; and "Schools in Japan. The remainder of the sum mer program is: July 1 Germany: "Mur ders Among Us" and "On Wings of Song." July &-England: "All Quiet On The Western Front." July 15 Russia: "Sadko" and "Black Patch." All of the films win be shown in the Student Union Ballroom.
