The University of Nebraska foot
ball team will try to once again
tomorrow afternoon to get back
in the win column.
The Huskers currently have lost
three in a row and four of then
first six contests. Their Saturday
opponents, the Missouri Tigers,
lost their first three games and
since then have won three in suc
cession. Tnis is another important Big
Seven tussle as the Tigers must
win to remain in contention for
a trip to the Orange Bowl. The
Huskers must win if they are
to stay in the first division cf
the Bis Seven race,
j Some S,0OO fans are expected to
j witness .the contest in Memorial
Stadium. This is homecoming for
the Huskers so they should be up
.for the battle.
Missouri coach Don Faurol will
he making his last appearance
;as coach against the Huskers, He
: is retiring after this season and
will become a full time Athletic
j Director.
! The Tigers are led by quarter
back Jimmy Hunter. The 2fl-year-old
senior from Webb City is cur-
;rently leading the Big Seven in
passing. He has completed 25 of
i4 tosses this season. This has
been good for 25 yards. The young
ster is also a very fine signal
caller and a fine running threat.
In the same backfield with Hunt
er are Hank Kuhlman. Charlie
James, and George Cramer.
James is the leading pass re
ceiver in the conference. So far
he lhas caught 38 throws for 23S
yards. He is just a sophomore
and is counted can a lot in the fu
ture. James started his college
career as a fallback but the coach
es soon changed him and the
team has profited by the move.
Kublman who plays at left half
back is also a sophomore. He is
ISi-h in the conference in rushing
with 231 yards to his credit in 45
tries.
The fullback Cramer ranks
eighth with 29a yards to 54 tries. 1
As a junior last year Cramer saw
only limited action and did not
letter. Early this season he was
scheduled to be on the second
team behind Gene Roll but impres
sed a lot and won the starting
nod.
Up front the Tigers have a young
but speedy unit of lads. Only two
of the sewn are seniors while
four are juniors and one is a soph
omore. The ends Bill Mc Kinney and
Larry Plumb are both juniors and
have a lot of speed to go with
their hustle. McKinney lettered
last season with the number two
unit but is a very fine receiver.
Plumb pound for pound is the best
end on the squad. He excels in
i down-field blocking and mxat be
louthustled by anyone, j
i The starting tackles are Mervia
Johnson and Don Chadwick. John- j
son is another fine junior. He was
a third-stringer last year but
i showed a lot of improvement, in
I spring ball and won the promo-'
tion. Chadwick is a 232 pound j
' sophomore from Independence. He
I started the season at guard but
;was changed so the coaches could
get full advantage of his ability,
j Paul Browning and Pete Jensen
I will be at guards for the Tigers,
j Browning, a senior, spearhead
ed the number two line on de
I Sense last year and is much iin-
; proved this fill. He was both
i speed and ability plus desire, Jen
I sen. a junior, also was third string
;er last year.
I Center Carl Qsterlo is a senior
' and two-year veteran from Clay
ton. He is always in top physical
condition and is a fine linebacker.
The the Missouri boys to watch
on Saturday includde second team
i quarterback Dave Doane. Doane
is fourth in the conference in pa$-.j
sing with S completions in 25 at-'
tempts. Last year as a junior be;
was the Big Seven's leading pas- (
ser. He also works good with the;
belly series and is good a boot-:
legging the ball. Fullbacks Joe l
Wynn and Roll also bave looked j
good and should see quite a bit''
of action. ;
On the Huskers side they have
a coupld of changes in the lineup
since last Saturdays loss to Colo
rado. Don Rhoda, second "learn guard
who sat out last weeks game may
see limited action. Also quarter
back George Harshman has ful
ly recovered from the flu and
should be at full strength although
he will run with the number two
unit.
Gordie Englert who looked well
against the Buffs will get the nod
at quarterback. The Sioux Falls,
South Dakota lad will be starting
his first varsity game.
The halfback posts will be un
decided again until possibly game
time. Larry Naviaux is expected
to get the od at right halfback
The Lexington sophomore has been
very impressive this reason and
ranks sixth in the conference " "r.
rushing. He has carried S3 times
for SSI yards.
Hawkins will again get the call
looked good the last couple of
weeks while Hawkins got the early
nod. Both men have good speed
and hustle.
Jerry Brown, the third ranking
rusher, continues to lead the way
at fullback. The Xionden junior h
gained 395 yards rusjing in the
first six contests. He has been
one of the most consistent Huskers
thus far.
Mania Hilding and Stu How
erter will get the nod at ends.
Eliding has been starting all sea
son and continues to do a fine Job. 1
Howerter, the Omaha junior, i
breaks into the lineup at right end.1
Howard McVey and Mike Lee have
been holding down this position
all year. Howerter has been impres
sive the last two weeks in practice
and so the coaches are going to
gie him a try.
Don Xampe and Jack Fleming
again get the call at tackles.;
Kampe remains in the number
one lineup although he is being
pressed by Jerry PETEEKSON B
are juniors and are rery aggres
saTe. Fleming seems to get better
with each contest. ""Flapjack1' rolls
vereach opponent as be comes
to them.

Missouri invades Nebraska Sat
urday for a Big Seven ocmiest in
which Nebraska is a decided un
derdog. Most national polls have the
Huskers n the short erad of the
score by as mwrJIs as 21 jpoirats.
The poll ctf Nebraska sportswrit
ers is unaiiimous for Missouri.
However, there could be naany
embarrassed faces around the
sportswriters circuit Sunday mor
umg. Nebraska has not been de
cisively beaten this year disDWunt
ing a 35-7 pasting fey Ohio State.
The team spirit is good, and at is
homecoming on the Nebraska cam
pus. Whatever the atoome, the crowd
jamming Meinnrial Stadium will
no doubt get its fill cf good foot
ball Nebraska contests with Mis
souri bave traditiuJLlZy been bard
taught and ctose.
This year Missouri can call cm
powerful Hank KuMimann, I:St9-lb.
sophomore balfbaci and Jimmy
Haulier, crafty 1.92-lb. quarterback
to make Don Faurol's split T at
tack function. These two. coupled
with Missouri's line, rated the best
an the conference last year, speU
the different between Missouri"
l34 record and their CMS chart at
tffis time last year.
But the good news is mot all on
lithe side of be Tigers. Nebraska
jhas some personnel to be proud
" of too. ""Flapjack" Fleiumung is a
"big bruising tackle that any of
.; would have been glad to po: -S!ess.
La Venae Torcaom and Jim
j Murphy give Nebraska as pood
a pair cf guards to be found in
, the conference.
In the backfield there" is Larry
;Navoux, hard running sopbranore
'back, and Jerry Brown, a fali
back who doesnlt seem to Deed
', boles.
'j Most of all tbongX the Busker
